Howdy All, I have a dumb question as a newbee to the old wing's, will a 1100 engine bolt into say a 75 bike with no major mods? I am talking mount holes and shaft alignment. I am sure of electric differences but will they interchange bolt in wise? I would like to know for future reference. Thank's Much !

1100's gearing is 3.1 approximately, the 1000's was 3.4. Lots like the swap for the lower gearing and the extra 100cc's. I better let Joe confirm, but I think you need to swap the 1000 output shaft into the 1100 motor to match the splines on the 1000 drive shaft. Easy to do when you swap the motors, just pop the back case off.

if you final drive and frame together there is no huge mod at all bolt and go ...1000 motor in 1100 gives a tall geared bike very good hiway bike...1100 into 1000 gives a lower geared bike for street bike both good really depending on what one wants

i'd run early cams to set up and have easy access (plus they are hotter), to ignition parts at the back of the left head,
as opposed to hidden away at the back of the 1100 engine, requiring major work for any access

do the pumpkins interchange in the swingarms?

or they have to match and stay together? between 1000 & 1100

I've done it, the 1100 motor doesn't just fit in without a few changes. The ignition pulse generator assembly interferes with the frame crossmember under the tank and the front of the swingarm. I had to cut the frame tube and swingarm for clearance.
Re-inforced the back of the frame tube and boxed the hole in the swingarm with some plate afterwards. It will bolt right in if you remove the pulse generator from the back of the motor and use the head-mounted ignition from the 1000 engine. I have an '83 engine, a lower first gear and higher fifth gear than the earlier 1100s. With the 3.40:1 ratio in the 1000 rear first gear is low enough to handle the sidecar quite nicely, fifth is still slightly taller than the original GL1000 setup.
