nice read a bit negitive leaning ...many thought the wing was fantastic from the get go itwas the second fastest production bike when it came out ..the 75-77 models could get it with there cam and head set up ..then they went milder and more touring like with the motor ...the stock carbs were the biggest flaw in my opinion on reliability ...if honda would have stuck with the m6 project bike with a single car on it and put there engeneering into that set up im sure the bike would have stomped the crap out of the KZ bike of the time ..but that just my opinion ..im very glad i ended up going this route with hooch bike ....

Yeah, it's called a Valkyrie.

But in 1975, not the later years, when there was a 900 cc Kawasaki, and not much could touch it. It would have set the motorcycle community on its ear so to speak. The race for dominance would have been phenomenal, the gauntlet would have been thrown down.

Here's a site that has a picture of the prototype: https://ridermagazine.com/2017/10/24/ho ... -timeline/

Cheers

Enclosed some more pictures of my 1978 purchased bike that I stored myself in 1983 and that was untouched for 31 years........a couple of years after my retirement I started with a complete dismantling, inspection, overhaul from 2014-2015
I was busy for a total of 1.200 hours = 800 hours "hardware" (pure labor) and 400 hours "software" (gathering knowledge; searching the internet etc, etc.)

@ ansimp,
Thanks.....
Yes indeed, Gary has a gorgeous '76 GL1000 with no flaws *** ..........beautiful!
Luckily he has high steering handles, otherwise during a meet we would steal each others bike without knowing.......... :smilie_happy:
Regards, Ruud

***) However......wait......he is missing the heat warning decal on the rear frame side..... :yahoo:

He offered to let Aussiegold take it for a spin but we both felt that being in such good condition we wouldn’t ride it (low Ks) but Gary said it is absolutely fantastic to ride and wouldn’t let it become a trailer/shed queen! I am pretty sure that he said that he used new CB750 bars as it makes a more comfortable riding position for him. :good:
