On checking for spark, if one or more don't spark, make sure you have a good ground to the block. Try swapping with a plug that DOES spark to be sure it's not a fouled plug not sparking.
 
Continuing with the spark, swap coils around that way you know if it is a faulty coil or igniter/trigger
 
You're right about the coils...one fires the front cylinders, the other fires the rears. The spark units are the same.

+1 on Dan's recommendations, and also try this:

Loosen the drain plugs on #2 and #4 carbs and make sure they're getting gas. The fuel must cross through the plenum to get to them, and if the fuel pump is weak, or if there is a blockage in the plenum passage, the left-side carbs will be starved. Also, check the fuel pump, filter, lines, and tank pickups.
