Hi, Guys. I have an '83 GL1100 Interstate, and while changing my oil, I lost the spring that slides on the shaft the filter fits on. Does anyone know the part number? I can't find that spring anywhere, and I'm pretty sure it's there for a reason...

Hi, there should be a spring and a washer behind the filter element, the spring is 15415-300-000 and the washer is 15414-300-000. Without the spring oil can bypass the filter so it needs to be there. I looked it up on mrcycles.com

Bike Bandit has the filter springs and washers. Get spares, as these seem to go missing on a lot of people's bikes.

Could also try a local hardware store. I've never had the spring go missing, but the washer was missing both on my GL1100 and my CM400 (same part number, btw).

All the washer does is prevent the spring from digging into the rubber of the oil filter.
