I been hearing a ligth rattling sound while cruising in 3rd gear. Now when I speed the bike a bit it dissapears.I'm thinking that it could be the shifter drum assembly or any of it's components kinda loose.Anybody had this type of sound on their tranny? Thanks for any inputs. :moped:

Only in third gear? Or at a specific rpm? Have you checked for loose exhaust components? Does it sound tinny or kind of low pitched? It may be something that's loosened on the bike. Have you tried to duplicate the sound while the bike is in the center stand?

No I haven't ,I'll take a look at her on the center stand tomorrow. It does sound inside the engine to my hearing.I would say it sounds low pitched.Heard it on 3rd riding it.Maybe without traffic noise I'll hear if it does it on others gears. :thanks:

Before you start it. Check the stator bolt. See if it's loose.
Do you check stator pulling the aluminum plug center out?
On the back of the engine?

Yup. Put the bike in 5th gear, have someone step on the brake pedal, and tighten the bolt.
Will definitely check that.Had that bolt turn loose on another engine I used to have.Made a hole thru the plug and got stuck there. :thanks:

Have check the stator bolt and it was fine.I did tighten it a wee more. Now is the aluminum plug on the stator same as clutch aluminum check plug.Have just stripped the threads  .So here I'm trying to superglue it till I find the replacement.80 & 81 have plugs on the clutches Rigth?

Have checked and they are.Old cb750k valve check plugs are the same. One is on its way :heat: .Meanwhile i'm waiting on the jb weld to dry so I can check bike on center stand for that sound.
