did you hone the calipers? Maybe the seals simply haven't seated. Try compressing the caliper pistons to force the air if any up the lines and then pump them back up a few times. Might just seal up and remove that spongy feel.

I just use very fine sandpaper to clean it up. Is there a honing tool you attach to your drill?

Back to the seat. update !! Finally, my seat has shipped. Now, it should be here in a week if its airmail but could be a month if sent by Dragon boat, I heard the seas can be pretty rough at times. Hope my seat is waterproof. :help:

Back to the brakes. I'm going to tackle them again today. we will see what happens.

It took months for my led headlights to come in on the row boat from China .....

Taiwan is slightly closer to the U.S. especially if the company is East Taiwan, so I'm hoping the engine on their Dragon boat is a hefty Honda 1100 like my wing, but if the Dragon boat can take the "wing" from my goldwing, then it will get here sooner. I'm hoping.

Brakes- Well, I ordered some one way speed bleeders. If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to do. Never had this problem.
The front is not leaking anymore and the rear is leaking pretty badly. will rebuild rear again i guess.

Never use sandpaper, emery cloth, or any abrasive on brake parts myself. :nea: Those scotch pads work well dry, :good: or with part's soaked in A T F first.

I'm considering going with a different rear master cylinder as mine is now leaking after a rebuild, which ticks me off since i spent $35 on a rebuild kit.

This is a 1980 Gl 1100 single piston. Thoughts. whats the compatibility since this rear caliper is not linked to the front?

$35, cheapskate! I spent hundreds trying to get my '82 Interstate to work with an Aspencade vented rotor, works good now though!

More seriously though, I think if you can find an '82 caliper bracket for a 2 piston caliper, there are probably more of those around, in better shape.

Or CB900's and the like had much the same stuff as yours does, I've had a lot of luck searching there.

I am a true cheapskate :good: But that being said, I've spent thousands over the years just to tinker. I did go ahead and purchase a Valkyrie master cylinder and mod that to work while I'm still waiting for my seat on the "Dragon" boat.

Another question, so the 82 has a 2 piston rear caliper and that wont fit my 81 existing bracket?

I'm much the same for most things, to the point where if you look up the word cheap in the dictionary, there's picture of me in color!

Except for this old bike for some reason, if someone came along that knew the blood, sweat and tears. The time and money that had gone into it, they'd offer me a grand. I got 16 years and $16K in it.

Needless to say. It ain't for sale!!

One word. "WOW"

I went ahead and ordered a caliper from ebay since i have tried everything and this one still leaks. I might have scratched the channel where the seal sits. This caliper was severely corroded. what do you guys use to clear up the corrosion, i know some have mention a dry green pad but what liquid could be used without hurting the chamber or channel?

Man, you can actually throw stuff out like that!

Maybe I'm just a hoarder, I've still got the rock hard helmet colored fairing that's in my early photos.

Okay, it's going out with the trash this week.

I'll bet it doesn't!

Well, as you guys are well aware, I bought a gl1100 with no intentions to keep, just wanted the title. All of you said, keep it as i might need parts for "The Wanderer". So. iv'e been battling the rear caliper, rebuilt twice and bought a spare on ebay (before i bought the other gl1100) and still leaks. I removed the caliper from the extra bike, removed piston and cleaned it up, did not replace the seal, put everything back together and PRESTO, no leaks. I also upgraded the rear master cylinder to a valkyrie. Although the brake is soft, it does work and i just need to bleed it some more.
So there you have it, parts bike is already paying off and, I will park it in my shed now next to the lawnmower. It was parked outside the shed in hopes of getting rid of it.

The seat from Taiwan, still waiting

Oh, all of a sudden"The wanderer" is not running very well. This is a single carb and was running great. came back from vacation and it won't idle. Fuel issue ??

Probably fuel. Blend of fuel today doesn't age well. If you keep a little atf mixed in the fuel it does last a good bit longer and continuously cleans all the passages.
