    GL1100 final drive

That's all food for thought, maybe that's why all the seals and o rings are so hard to get. Honda didn't think anyone would be dumb enough to try! :thanks:

    GL1100 final drive

Thanks for the replies and info from scdmarx, but has anyone actually done the work? There is mention of critical settings, but if you put it back as it was, wouldn't that surffice? Jon

    GL1100 final drive

Got a couple of manuals, but I think the haynes manual is a good start, until you get to the dreaded 'reassemble in reverse order' phrase. The workshop manual is more detailed, but sometimes can cross refer to many times. I once stripped a Suzuki GS750 right down using a Haynes. And I only had...

    GL1100 final drive

As the project continues and plans change, I wanted to strip the final drive down to clean it up and get the casing powder coated. I have managed to source most of the o rings and oil seals, which has been a challenge in itself, but then the haynes manual suggests that it is not really a diy...

    Loctite

Hi there, Is it best on an engine rebuild to just torque the bolts etc with maybe a dab of grease on them, or do you use loctite or an equivalent product. Also when I removed the stator coils, the bolts seemed to be coated in some sort of plastic product! Any ideas? Jon

    Another obsolete part.

Thanks for that, I found one at Northeast Vintage Cycle! Two of the problems I have found is that a lot of places list items and then have nil stock, and they don't ship overseas! I was once quoted $80 postage for a label!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jon

    The project continues

Hi there again and I have got the engine in half and steadily cleaning all the old gasket compound off the mating surfaces that a previous owner must have got in bulk! As I have said before, it has been interesting so far, but I have found bolts missing as well as o-rings, and rubber goo running...

That's the one Dan, I think it may be there just as a support. As usual, thanks to everyone for taking the time and effort to answer my post. Must have a go at loading some pics.

    Another obsolete part.

Just getting to the point where the two engine halves are going to come apart! Made a list of o-rings, oil seals, gaskets etc needed for the rebuild, but the latest part that is proving hard to get, is the grommit for the scavenger pump, no. 15239-463-000. Most sites are listing this as 'no...
