Parts For Sale GL1100 Parts For Sale - PACKAGE DEAL NOW!

1st up are brake parts. 2 good sets of 1982 front rotors. Both sets are above the 4MM limit. These are for the 1982 model only! They will not work with the single caliper 1980/1981 GL1100 or for Aspy's which used vented rotors. I pulled my rotors because I got a great deal on a machined set...

Parts For Sale GL1100 Parts For Sale - PACKAGE DEAL NOW!

Folks, we sold our 1982 GL1100 Standard back in 2021 and it is time to get rid of the remaining parts I have collected. The bike was known as the "Slug" and we sure had a great time resurrecting her from a barn find, non-running (blown engine), out in the weather pile of rust to a bike I put...

    82 Interstate Speedometer issue

Very carefully, yes. You gently bend up the chrome ring (from the bottom) that holds the top and bottom together. Take your time.

    82 Interstate Speedometer issue

The hard part about the buzzing in a speedometer (or tachometer) is that drops of oil only make it to where the tang enters (and spins) the meter. The buzzing comes from the other side of the meter (inside). Still only a drop of oil needed, but the unit needs to come apart to get to the...

    Dieletric grease

I packed the plug with dielectric grease AFTER I replaced the plug so essentially starting from new. Dielectric grease will not solve the plug issue if it is still original and had corroded at any point.

    Bear’s Cycle & Restoration

I rebuilt 2 sets of GL1100 carbs and it was well worth the effort. They really were not hard to clean and rebuild. But I look at the GL1000 carbs and it looks like a lot more can go wrong. Either way, there is no way a professional rebuilder should ever had sent your carbs back in that...

    82 std choices to make.

They do! But the Hondaline bags were a dealer add-on. I added them to my Standard plus I fabricated a mount to add the trunk to the Hondaline frame. I originally had all Hondaline quick detatch square bags and trunk, but wanted a larger trunk. The Vetter faring worked fantastic, but it was...

    My 1986 1200 DIES!

I have a completely rebuilt GL1100 starter sitting on the shelf. Problem is, I cannot remember if the 1100 and 1200 starters are interchangeable.

    Pegs

A friend of mine had an older 1800 with the Wingleader foot pegs and had the same issue. He took a quality stainless hose clamp, cut the adjustment screw off the clamp, and added it under the foot peg clamp to take up the slop that caused it to drop whenever he put his feet on them. Worked for...

    30amp fuse getting Hot

Looking at your pictures, those butt connectors are not the right size for the wire plus there is exposed wire coming out of those connectors. Blue butt connectors are only good to 14 gauge wire. The wire coming from the fuse is 12 gauge. There is a good chance the wire strands were snipped...

    82 std choices to make.

Taking a closer look at your '82 Standard, you have a big item in place that is often missing which is the original headlight and front turn signals. They are often taken off for a Vetter faring or similar. Seems minor, but it is a selling point. My opinion, get that Standard completely back...

    82 std choices to make.

I sold an '81 Standard with just a windshield vs our '82 Standard with a windshield, bags and additional road trip comforts. I can tell you the '81 Standard got a lot more activity and sold for a higher price than my poor '82 Standard (The Slug). '81 Standard: '82 Standard:

    Oil pressure gauge

There are lots of gauges available. I recommend going with an electrical analog gauge rather than a mechanical OP gauge with the plastic tube. The plastic tubes are not U/V protected and they crack after sun exposure. With the oil pressure at 35-40 lbs at highway speed, it can become a real...

Points/Condenser ignition system versus Electronic Ignition Systems/Upgrades

Hot restart issue can often be carbs. A little gas dribble can nearly hydro-lock a hot engine . It can also happen if the gas tank vent cap is rusty. Slow starts when hot are also caused by starter failing. So many little common items on 1100's like this. BUT, that Pertronix will keep on...

    Drag Specialties GL1200 backrest

If I am looking at your picture correctly, it is not installed correctly. Take a look at the original picture you posted in the 1st post. When the backrest is installed correctly, when it is in the rear position, it should be resting in the down position (unable to fold/roll back). It should...

Points/Condenser ignition system versus Electronic Ignition Systems/Upgrades

I converted 1956 Chris Craft flathead, 6 cylinder engine from 6 volt to 12 volt. Next, I removed the points and condenser and installed a Pertronix electronic ignition into the distributer. It worked great! Always kept a fresh set of points and condenser in a plastic bag in the event of a...

    Drag Specialties GL1200 backrest

I could not ride without my backrest. While not a Drag Specialties backrest, on road trips it makes all the difference in the world! The only issue I ever heard with the Drag Specialties back rest is the mounting makes you straddle a bit wider when coming to a stop and trying to plant your...
