Yup… so this bike I’m using for my build is/was just a parts bike with no plastics. I paid $20 free shipping for right side cover ( eBay) and $35 plus $15 shipping for the left. Not bad , given some left ones are going for $150 a pop!! Maybe a guy could start a small 3d printing co to sell...

Well… here’s a few pics. 1975 Vetter fairing, trunk and bags on a 1984 Gl1200. What’s left? Head gasket change on left side , then total teardown for paint.

Update. I now have both side covers and my dry build is almost complete. I’m putting Vetter fairing, bags and trunk on my gl1200. I actually found a set of vetter fairing mounting brackets that was specifically made for a gl1200 in my junk metal pile. Love it when things go my way. Here’s a pic...

I’m attempting to mount Vetter saddlebags to my 84 gl1200. These are the cool looking sloped hard bags . If anyone has attempted this I would appreciate some info on how you mounted them.

Update!!! I change the oil and substituted one quart with Lucas stabilizer for high mileage engines. Took her on a little run and…. presto!! Geeeeeesh!!! New problem. Slight oil emittting from left exhaust. Checked compression- 1,2,3 are at 125. Suspect plug 4 is around 110. Will soak plug holes with some mmo for a few days and also put some in crankcase. This should free up any stuck rings. Also explains why it was so difficult...

I removed a single carb setup from a wing I built a few yrs back and transplanted it into the bike I’m having issues with. She runs pretty well now! So now I know the other carb is faulty.

Think I found the culprit…. Electric choke. Never had an issue before. I guess I will unplug it and take it from there.

I almost made a decision I would later regret. Put this wing up for sale and then said, “ what the hell am I doing?” I spent 9 months building her, very meticulously to the point of every nut and bolt cleaned. So glad I still have this bike…. Will never sell :)

Fleebay. Don’t buy these!! I went ahead and bought a $7 pair and then the OEM and placed side by side and you can clearly see the difference.

Wow!! Took the bike out a few times and when to retorque and sure enough one bolt had already backed off a bit. I went ahead and retorqued each bolt to 45 ft lbs. should be good to go now.

Okay… new head gasket is on and all is good. I spent $70 on Honda OEM gasket as opposed to some cheap $7 ones. The water that was leaking out left tailpipe joint is no more. Bike is running great! Did have an issue with coolant level in reservoir slowly dropping… turned out to be the radiator...
