Got those rear springs and hitch I needed!

Thanks again for the great advice guys. I have had some more second thoughts as well. Boy, these are two DIFFERENT bikes, and I like 'em both! I know there will be times I will miss the 1100. Just space and time, but maybe somehow . . . .

Got those rear springs and hitch I needed!

I know . . . It's tempting! . . . . Out of room and out of money. Is there a way of posting an ad on this site? I have it listed on Appleton, WI Craigslist right now. It's the sharpest and best maintained 83 listed for $2150 and I am not getting any hits. Of course weather is getting cooler...

New springs for the rear struts of my 83 GL1100A?

I got the shocks I needed -- Progressives front and back. Had to buy them with a bike! :smilie_happy: See my new Avatar . . . And my first post in the GL1500 forum last night. I started to type the full announcement as an entry in this post, but I decided that this constituted a NEW...

Got those rear springs and hitch I needed!

Like I said, you guys helped me work through some decisions . . . . and Here's my NEW Wing!! After ten happy years with the 83 Aspy, here's my 11-year-newer but still 25-year-old 94 GL1500A that I just purchased tonight. It's amazing! :Egyptian: Remember, the one I said I test rode earlier...

New springs for the rear struts of my 83 GL1100A?

Fantastic! And the video was an 83 Interstate. Looks pretty conclusive that it's the same shock used throughout the early 80's GL1100's, both Interstate and Aspencade. Great info and video! :thanks:

New springs for the rear struts of my 83 GL1100A?

I just read a few reviews on the Monroe MA785 shocks. One was from a Harley guy who had a welded fitting break. He obviously did not recommend them. Seems that there is some safety factor sticking with the Honda spring/air setup if I can still change the springs.

New springs for the rear struts of my 83 GL1100A?

The Progressive Kit D springs ARE still available -- Amazon for around $70 for the pair. I just don't know if they would work in my struts. Should my 83 GL1100A rear struts be the same as the 81 GL1100I? Again, the basic appearance is the same.

New springs for the rear struts of my 83 GL1100A?

Very interesting! Do you have a link for a thread on this? Just an automotive air shock with no internal spring?

New springs for the rear struts of my 83 GL1100A?

Years ago I installed progressive springs in the front of my Aspy. Glad I did! I like 'em a lot. I sure would like to put a pair in the rear. I called the guru at Progressive and he said that there is not a spring available for the original rear struts on this 83 GL1100A. Is it possible to...

    Continental Milestone problems

I still cannot recommend a Continental Milestone for a rear tire on this bike! Because of that fat tire the first two months of this riding season were full of frustration for me. I read somewhere that it may be a quality control issue as he had seen a considerable difference in width between...

    Continental Milestone problems

You were right, it came with nice raised white letters. It's a great tire. It is much narrower than the tire I pulled off. It rides great. I just want to reiterate for anyone that might be considering putting a Continental Milestone tire on a GL1100 -- DON'T TRY IT! By the numbers...

    Brake line fittings

Thanks for sharing your experience, Tory. I knew that I wasn't the first person who had faced this issue, nor will I be the last.

    Continental Milestone problems

Thanks. Actually, that would be cool. As long as it's not a radial or too wide I'll be ecstatic. If I get a surprise when I open the box I will post again.

    Continental Milestone problems

Thanks for the info regarding bias and radial. I have wondered about that. I think the Bridgestone is Bias as the specs say. I just did a search and found out that the R after S11 just stands for Rear tire.

    Continental Milestone problems

I put a 140/90-16 Continental Milestone tire on the rear of my 83 Aspencade. It ended up rubbing on both sides. I even ground off the chicken strips on both sides and it still rubbed! It's roughly 6" wide even after my unapproved modification. Needless to say, it's coming off. I have read...
