What did you do to your Wing today ?

Well everybody has to be from somewhere. And Big Spring has an HEB ! In Lubbock, we don't even have that.

I rode it. Went on a Bean Dip run. HEB grocery stores have my favorite bean dip, but the closest one is in Big Spring Texas. 106 miles away. Windy as could be, but it was a good ride. John M.

Thanks for all the kind words. And it's too bad about Saber Cycle. I wanted to think they were honest business people with good parts, but I have seen the light. Live and learn. :thanks: John

    Cleaning a rust gas tank

The tank on my "76 was somewhat rusty, and needed cleaning, so I tried the electrolysis method with good results. This was the web site that got me to thinking about it. https://www.altelco.net/~jacil/clay/motorcycle/KElecSetup.html I liked it because I didn't have to remove the tank. There...

    Home made tools

I once had a blacksmith show me another method to temper hi carbon steel. He quenched it in cold water to harden it. That does make it brittle, but then he buffed it on a wire wheel to make it shiny again. Then he heated it until it became a straw color (Light tan) then stuck it in the ashes...

    Dark Side

I tried a car tire on the back of a Valkyrie I used to have. The handling was strange, but I kinda got used to it. I eventually put a MC tire back on it, and was amazed at the great handling. I didn't fully realize how crappy the car tire really was. The sweet handling is lost with a car...

new to me oldwing 77 1000

On my "76, the headlight would quit at times, so I read the wiring diagram, and found the headlight goes through the starter button. That way the headlight goes off while starting. Only it wouldn't come back on sometimes. I could pull on the little starter button and it would come back on...

    Stupid tire changing questions...

Large "C" clamp makes a pretty good bead breaker, or I've used a bumper jack hooked as usual to a bumper, with the bottom plate placed on the tire. It works well if it's really stuck. May need some 2x4's under the wheel to keep the brake rotors off the pavement. jm

Hello; My name is John and I have a 1976 GL1000 LTD. I aquired it from my Dad about 15 years ago. He bought it new from our local dealer and enjoyed it for many years. He quit riding when his eyesight and reflexes were starting to worry him. I have been letting it sit a lot for the last 7...
