    Renewing/rust removal/cleaning gas tanks

It is the reserve screen, so it may not be that much of an issue. I could always double up on the fuel filter if ever I need to use the spare tank.

    Renewing/rust removal/cleaning gas tanks

Well since the pick up screen is damaged, I'm not going use this tank. I'm gonna work on the one I pulled off of Bumblebee. Shouldn't take much since it's in way better shape than the spare was.

    Renewing/rust removal/cleaning gas tanks

Gave it another lime/calcium/rust cleaner treatment. Let it set for 15- 20 minutes like the bottle said. It's working. I think one more longer treatment will get it all. Oh, I did notice the reserve pick up screen on this tank got damaged somehow.

    Renewing/rust removal/cleaning gas tanks

I'm leery about doing that. I don't want to take any chances on damaging the pick up screens.

    Renewing/rust removal/cleaning gas tanks

I guess if I let it sit longer, it'll get rid of a lot of that gunk.

    Renewing/rust removal/cleaning gas tanks

I added some lime-away type cleaner and it cleaned the pick up screen rather nicely. It was pretty caked with I don't know what. That black residue seems to be getting eaten away also. More experimenting on this one tomorrow. The pulled tank from my 1980 GL1100 doesn't look too bad. Pick up...

    Renewing/rust removal/cleaning gas tanks

Used vinegar in one tank for a test. That actually works. you can see the rust line. But what the heck is all that black stuff still on the bottom?

My current project before I started tearing it down. Is this pick ok? Backdrop is kinda nice, lol! 1980 GL1100 Standard will be dubbed Bumblebee when I am done. It is my Transformer project.

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Pulled the tank. Book says "removal is a laborious process". :whip: It didn't seem so to me. Once everything is out of the way and I removed the petcock, the tank slid right out. And of course I have been doing a little here and a little there so that probably made it seem easier.

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Pulled the rear wheel out to get ready to pull the tank for a good overhaul. Wheel needed to come off anyway since I want to paint the rim and get new tires.

Some crud I discovered today. I'll definitely be using this write up to right up my carbs :smilie_happy:

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Worked on half the carb assembly. I noticed something interesting about the carbs I took off the bike and my spare set. I bet you can tell what's wrong with the pulled one! And it's the same on all 4!

    Cheap wing in Louisiana

Yeah, too much of a hop, skip and a jump. I hate to hear that people are just scrapping the metal.
