Bigger project than I can do right now...

Hello all. It's been a while sine I have posted. Last year when my Dad gave me an '85 GL12 in need of "work," I figured that I could get it going and back on the road. Well... after having the bike sit in pieces in my garage all fall, winter, spring... and now summer, I have come to the...

Help bring an '85 12 back to life!

Well, Ive gotten some work done on the bike. Not as much as I had hoped for, but the weekend is not over yet, either. I continued with the front end strip down. I made some discoveries that I would like to share with you. Here is one side of the timing belts: The belts themselves actually...

Help bring an '85 12 back to life!

The current state of (dis)repair: I have, of course, found the obligatory mouse's nest in the fairing. Could be another on in the air box.. we'll see. My wife and son are off to a family reunion this weekend but since I have to work tomorrow, I will be staying behind. That's okay. Gives me...

What GL1200 Engine Modifications are out there?

Yeah... That may say it best of all. Well, on my '78 CB750, I bored it out from 736 to 849. Ported and polished the head. Total seal rings. Optical ignition. Custom 4 into 4 pipes. Custom air filter unit... and various other things. I am not planning on doing anything NEAR that...

What GL1200 Engine Modifications are out there?

While the end plan is to leave my '85 1200 I as stock looking as possible (it's going to be the wife's bike, and that's that way she wants it), I have been looking around for different engine mods I can do as a full rebuild is looking likely as I bring this thing back to life. I come from the...

Draining the oil will be soon. I'm really hoping for no surprises.

Help bring an '85 12 back to life!

Yeah, 39,000 original miles. I got the back end of the bike stripped down. I've got to get rear brake off as it's dragging pretty fierce. Slowly I will strip down the front and get the heads off and see what's what.

Help bring an '85 12 back to life!

Ha, ha! I got a little work in this morning and have ben trying to figure out what it was that pissed my dad enough to make him give me this bike. Some close up pics: This should mostly just wash off... Green is a normal engine color, right? Couldn't seem to get the battery...

Help bring an '85 12 back to life!

Well, I've taken the beast into custody and am preparing for the strip search. I figure I've got two options. After taking some time to look it over myself, I figure I can probably get it running quick and cheap OR I can do it right and do a frame up resto and clean up. Turns out that the...

It's complete at least. Better then some I've worked with.

Help bring an '85 12 back to life!

I can tell I'm going to like this site already. Thanks for the tips, all. That's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll report back once I've had a chance to crank on it a bit. In the mean time, here are some pics to entice! I've been looking around at different pic and mods out there...

New Member with a New Basket of Troubles... I mean "New Bike." :)

Ha, ha... I have yet to be a member of decent forum where people didn't want pictures! Well here she is in all her glory (complete with green mold) on the back of Dad's Trailer: I have brought uglier back to life. :) There is hope. I figured I would drop a picture of CD player...

By starter. I don't think the PO did a whole lot to try and remedy the situation. It could be a starter issue. That will be the second thing I check. I'm really hoping it is just a stuck float on a carb that filled a cylinder with gas. :)

Help bring an '85 12 back to life!

Greetings all! I posted this in the introduction section as well but figured that I would probably get more views on this board than that, so I hope a double post isn't too frowned upon. I have just been "given" (complicated and yet somewhat uninteresting story behind it.... I'll spare you...

Greetings all! My name is Bob and I am from Northern Vermont. I have just been "given" (complicated and yet somewhat uninteresting story behind it.... I'll spare you all the details) a 1985 GL1200 Wing by my parents. I have been looking around for a, cheap, older GL for a while. While I...
