Cross Canada tour - Newfoundland and Back on the Spyder

Good on ya Sir!! I did a chunk of that trip but up thru Maine to Haifax and picked up wife at airport and on to the the rest of the trip. 3 Weeks and a great deal of fun. Great people and great sea food everywhere we went. Enjoy it and ride SAFE!!

    Bike lift jack

Had one for several years and they work fine but it leaks oil so I converted to air pressure which leaks too but nothing to clean up. Put a 10K car lift in my new shop...have my little jon boat on it now doing some upgrades. If you have room it's the way to go...IMHO.

    Foot Throttle?

That's an issue we all face to some extent when we get into those "mellowing years". I have feet problems from Agent Orange and can still shift on the left foot but I went to the Honda NC750DCT and it is wonderful, much lighter than the Wing and easier to handle. Left hand got smashed in a...

    Doesn't seem right!

Good for you Denver!! I was going to change the oil in my 60 gal. compressor yesterday...went fishing instead...there's always tomorrow or next week. Maybe that's why I use ATF in stuff...dance card is full...all the time!

    Doesn't seem right!

You're probably right, but when I bought it I loved it and I didn't need to engineer it. Mine always gave me good equal braking to keep the bike from diving on a hard stop. The thing I noticed most was that my wife's helmet seldom came banging into mine when I hit the brakes hard...that was...

    Doesn't seem right!

My ST1300 had proportioned brakes and they were actuated by the front lever or rear pedal and they were wonderful!! I'm rebuilding my front brakes to include new stainless lines so maybe I'll have all the brakes I need in most cases with the new parts. I don't have a lot of room on the right...

    Doesn't seem right!

Yes, I was thinking 70% front. Is it volume or is it pressure that provides actuation of the piston in the caliper?

    Doesn't seem right!

Just thinking out loud...has anyone tied both front and rear brakes together on 1100's using the front lever for actuation? The foot room on the pegs is kinda small and I have found my right foot on the rear brake pedal a couple times by accident. Seems that it wouldn't be too hard to accomplish...

    Doesn't seem right!

I just use ATF the last 100 miles or so before oil change. Sometimes I run a pint at oil change in my F250 for 6K miles but I agree...too thin for high percentage use in anything. I can't say about rubber seals swelling because I have never noticed it if it did occur. I'm pretty sure nitrile...

    Doesn't seem right!

Gosh Denver, I'm not an expert here so I'm copying something I found that I think explains why ATF is a good thing: "ATF is hygroscopic, even the full synthetic version is hygroscopic... its designed to pull moisture away from the control valves / pistons, which have tight tolerances within...

    Doesn't seem right!

Correct Sir...and it's a great lubricant and cleaner plus you can see it really easily when you have a leak.

    Doesn't seem right!

I have a rebuild kit for the front calipers and master cylinder enroute. I figured I might as well do it all while I have it apart. My Speedometer is lagging a bit too so it needs some cleaning and lube. ATF is a wonderful thing!! I use it in bike, car, truck brakes, airplanes, (except my...

    Doesn't seem right!

Oh yeah...and you can use ATF instead of brake fluid.

    Doesn't seem right!

I never trusted the idea of nylon brake lines but I did a lot of research on using it for airplane brake lines and found nylon is very common, even in 18 wheelers. Bendix uses them and they expect a million miles of service...it's not your grandma's nylon.

    Doesn't seem right!

Good idea Denver. Has anyone used nylon brake lines?

    Doesn't seem right!

Thanks guys! Looks like they are a good source for a bunch of stuff for old Wings. I did 140 miles this morning and the engine is running fine above 2K rpm but still stumbles below that. I'll give it a little more time to see if it will smooth out. I found a pool table smooth parking lot and...

    Doesn't seem right!

Psy, I ordered new parts to rebuild the front brakes and have requested a price on stainless lines but haven't gotten a response. Does anyone have a suggested source on front bake lines?? My wife and I took a very pleasant trip thru NB into NS and PEI a few years back...really miss the seafood...

    Good idea Jeff...I'll try it.

    Thanks Bronk!!

    Doesn't seem right!

I'm leaning that way Bronk. Is there a usual source for rebuild parts/pads? The tires were replaced in 13 too so they look great. I looked for cracks, cuts and so on and they are OK I believe. I'm kinda paranoid of tire failure...I had a sidewall cut on my DRZ at about 30 mph in rocks and that...
