What's the best way to clean top of head to remove old gasket material? Do I bother cleaning the Pistons?

Where would one buy Gaskets and timing belts? Thanks for everyones help.

To which extent would most go? Its pretty gunked up, and seems to have sat for many years. Just replace pistons/rings/ timing belt and head gaskets and see what she can do? I havnt found too much time yet to even dig into it. Cheers

Right on! I got some frame/engine numbers, definately is a 1979 GL1000. Will know more about that fairing when i go pick her up! Are the engine/frame numbers supposed to match? They seem fairly close ...Frame # is GL 4113113 – Engine # appears to be GLOE 4113152
