Hello everyone just wondering if there are any other members living on Vancouver Island.
Have 1984 GL1200 for give away must pick up last run 6 years ago (needs new stator and throttle assembly.
Same here i just pump full of grease to force piston out. If the bore is corroded i bore out bore on lathe. Then press in stainless steel bar (make bar.002 larger than bored hole) then install on lathe and rebore to original size problem solved permanently.
The only concern i would have is that if not done since new is that removal of buildups could cause excessive smoking because of excessive wear on internal parts.
The only reason for using diesel oil is high detergent which keeps contaminants suspended in oil so no buildup of sludge in engine.
When i remove valve covers to adjust valve clearances engine is like new no yellow tinge everthing is like new.
Still trying to make 1 million miles then will drain all fluids and remove battery and put in man cave on its side covered with glass table top. Then will be able to remember all trips while having a drink.
Have run since new on High detergent diesel oil (was told warranty would not be honored if used).
Still original engine.
Following repairs as followed
1. Left cylinder head gasket (leaking coolant) 320,000 miles
2. Clutch 3 times (removed buffer plate and added 1 metal and 2 friction to clutch...
I made a fitting with grease nipple on end that I just screw in piston brake line hole and then pump full of grease forcing piston out easily. Works every time
