    GL1000 1978 seat

Thanks for the advice anyway. I put on some lower (by about 2”) handlebars a few days ago. Now that I can lean a little forward, the seat feels better. Go figure! Still like to try the original seat though.

    GL1000 1978 seat

I have a 1978 GL1000 with a touring seat but would like to get an original one. The touring seat doesn’t let you move forward or backward to maybe a more agreeable position. I’m having no luck with eBay or local (Tasmania, Australia) wreckers, but am checking further afield. Does anyone have one...

Hello. My first Goldwing 1978 GL1000

The trouble with Bobs is they don’t warrant anything you buy.....so it’s pot luck. I hope the rectifier/regulator is ok.

Hello. My first Goldwing 1978 GL1000

Thanks for the advice aussiegold. I have ordered carb kits, with free shipping to Aus, and I have limited room, but you’re right, parts are so much cheaper here that I will grab the timing belts, etc before I go. I was at Bobs second hand for a rectifier/regulator she needs and think I might go...

Hello. My first Goldwing 1978 GL1000

I did disconnect the cable from both ends at the roadside. I used a Phillips head screwdriver at the wheel...no problem. I don’t know what a JIS Screwdriver is either. I recharged the battery thanks to a friendly neighbor and taking her to the mechanic this morning . Got little room to carry...

Hello. My first Goldwing 1978 GL1000

Thanks pidjones, I appreciate the good advice. In about two weeks I’ll be taking her to LA for the trip to Aus. I think I’ll leave the job until I get her home. I also saw a iTunes video showing how to remove the rim holding a similar instrument together, but I will have a closer look at the...

Hello. My first Goldwing 1978 GL1000

Thanks for the welcomes and advice guys. The previous owner told me this morning that the brakes were done less than 4 years ago so I won’t have to worry about the asbestos. Now, my charging system is failing....getting it checked over Saturday. Is there a quick fix for a dodgy speedometer? The...

Hello. My first Goldwing 1978 GL1000

Thanks for the advice guys. She has something like 60k miles up so I will play it safe and change the pads. She is running rough too and I’m hoping Sea Foam (high dose ) will improve her. She had been through a hot Phoenix summer sitting in the garage.

Hello. My first Goldwing 1978 GL1000

Hi, I bought a 1978 GL1000 a month ago here in Phoenix Arizona and intend to ship her back home to Tasmania, Australia in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if the original brake pads have any asbestos in them?
