    1985 GL1200 Limited ECU Replacement/Upgrade - Part 2

I have been following this story even though I have an older first gen Goldwing and it makes me think about a gizmo called the Redox ecu that I have installed on my 2019 Royal Enfield Himalayan. It is a programmable fuel computer with laptop software that is used to tune the bike when upgrades...

Caps for idle 1978 GL1000 adjustment screws

Any ideas on replacement caps/covers for GL1000 idle mixture screws? Mine are long gone and something makes me think they may be a good idea to keep rain and/or junk out of there. I could be persuaded to ignore this detail as well...

    1978 GL1000 resto project

On the 78 you synch the two left carbs to each other then synch the two right together and then match the pairs to each other. Same as the GL1100 if done right all 4 gauges will move identical

    1978 GL1000 resto project

If your choke is in fact stuck all of the cams and linkage is external so you should be able to spot it. Pull the choke and check the right of the carb bank where the cable ends. The cable should pull on the right side and move parts (linkages and cam) all the way to the left

    1978 GL1000 resto project

Just a guess but now that you have things lined up properly the jugs are no doubt spinning more freely. You should be able to drop the idle now to normal. Same thing when synching. Idle surge is kind of a result of correct synchronization. BTW I checked my idle mixture screws and a couple were...

    1978 GL1000 resto project

I am curious about this as I have a '78 with similar issues. It seems very finicky about idle speed adjustments, does not like idle below 1000 and also the choke cable on mine does not increase the idle speed at all. In my case the carbs were rebuilt by a honda mechanic who owned the vike...

    GL1000 soft start question

Thanks all I appreciate the input. No point in chasing some ghost in the machine then. I will likely leave it original. Although...I always keep an electric pump in the bags for an emergency - maybe it's time to wire it up?

    GL1000 soft start question

Good to know - but aren't all of these models using basically the same mechanical fuel pump?

    GL1000 soft start question

Hello all, I have a new to me all stock 1978 GL1000 with pretty low miles that I bought from a Honda mechanic. I have previously owned two mid 80s GL1200s and one 82 GL1100 and I am used to a crisp start with only a bump of the starter on these other models when cold. A hot start on these other...
