Update:

Sorry made a mistake,

I wrote the Naked GL12 weighed 500-Lbs, after conversion to naked.
I checked my notes, the 86' GL1200 Naked weighed 580-Lbs on the Truck scale.

So i dropped 120-LBS, off that Bike, That is still substantial, that difference can really be felt.

The Memory is a great thing when it work's, mine must have taken a vacation.

Either that or too many Chemicals cleaning/Painting those bikes

When I bought the 1986' GL12 It had 38k Original miles it now is much more fun to ride, and has about 42K on it.
It runs really well.

Yea Jorg,

The M109R & C109R is a Torque Monster Engine, I bought basically, Bought the 2007' M109R Whole Bike, Minus the Frame & Front forks, it is a 2007' it had 1,800-miles on the bike, It is Barely broken in.

I Bought the rear swing arm, Rear Brake, drive line shaft drive, Rear Wheel, all wiring, and Electrical, & gauges,

One of my Bike's I own is a 2008' C109R I bought it new from the dealer in 2010' they had not sold it and want to sell their inventory, MSRP was $13,800 I got it for less than $10K out the door Full warranty as it was new just had not sold yet.

I now have 700-miles on it, The C109R is the Cruiser Version of the M109R.

The C109R is an Awesome Bike, it is amazing. I will post a PIC of my C109R.

The Windshield On that C109R is Great, It can be removed when you want to ride Naked with No tools to remove it and removes in about 30 seconds or less.

Not Folgers, I start my day taking shot's of Red bull one every 15 minutes till noon, then i switch to pints of Rock Star, :yahoo:

Acutally I dont drink either, I dont drink Coffee. Just a healthy diet & exercise (Working out building Bikes)

I bought that 83' GL11 for $300 from a guy in Northern California it was Not Running, Brakes were Frozen, you could Not push it, Engine was Frozen, it took about a week of soaking in my penetrate combination fluid to get the engine turning again.

My Brother in-law Bought the 78' for $200, before Dropping it off at my house for me to work on, He helped. But he is Lost when it comes to working on Goldwings. This engine was Frozen too.

But as you all know, buying a Bike on the cheap, that need's this much work, also requires a lot of time, work and Money to get back to near new (better than new) condition.

My Brother-in-law also has a 80' GL11 that he is storing at my House, It has been here for a while, well he is finally coming to pick it up :yahoo: :Egyptian: :clapping: Nice!!

Engine is Frozen on that one too!!

He is going to do this next one. But i will help if he needs it.

I have a 99' GL1500SE that I would like to build it into a Naked bike.

I would like to Maybe put a short to medium height, Memphis slim windshield on it as these can be removed in less than 20 seconds without any tools.

I could go from fully protected (windshield installed) to Naked (windshield removed) in less than 20 seconds without tools.

Here is a pic of my 99'SE it has 45K Miles and runs & handles Great I have gone through it rebuilt forks and put progressive springs & synthetic fork oil, I would go with Progressive coil over Rear Shocks on a naked, & I replaced Brake pads as front forks were leaking when i bought the bike and had ruined the pads.

I would hope to drop about 150-Lbs to 200-Lbs as this would make a GL1500 more interesting to ride.
to me the stereo's on the 1500 are Crap, I dont need it.

I would like to get it light lean and mean. Every part of a bike responds better to LESS Weight, ie: Brake's, Handling, Suspension,

Goals:

1. Light,
2. Low (weight),
3. Narrow,
4. short

Stainless Steel Brake Lines would be nice on this project as well.

Hey toytender01,

I may consider getting rid of the stereo equipment.

I will have to let you know.

That 83' GL11 that I previously posted was owned by an 800-Lb. Gorilla, He had stripped for bolt holes out. I put in at least 5+ heli-coils in that engine.

I used a torque wrench on all hardware, but the PG (Previous Gorilla) must have muscled on most hardware, damaging threaded holes.

I will try to get a picture of the modified socket,

That socket has teeth like my ex-wife's mother, you know, kinda like a horse, you could count her teeth on one hand and still have two fingers left over.

OK enough ex-mother-in-law jokes

it is a 30mm socket that I held up to the nut to be removed, then with a sharpie i drew the marks for the legs, then I used a 3" cut off wheel on my compressor.

That one is for the top alum half of the triple tree.

The second one is for the lower (steel triple tree)

for the lower one i used a piece of 1.250" steel pipe (you could use a socket for this too but I didn't)

same thing hold the pipe over the nut mark with a sharpie, cut with a cutoff wheel. this one is torqued to much less torque

The 30mm socket is for the, higher torque Alum. upper Triple tree, the Pipe tool is for the lower torque lower steel part of the triple tree. Both are torqued and different

I think you'll enjoy the 83 naked. My 83 was a factory naked. According to the owners manual, it tips the scales at about 650lbs wet. That seat looks familiar! Mine's for a 2000 Valk. :music:

nice bike riff raff ....i have a 82 standard ...80 standard ...83 standard ....79 naked ...77 naked ....83 honda dresser and a 82 vetter dresser standard ...not all running but all titled tho ....ive got lots to do ....three more to double digits.....

im like ron the 83 dresser is a perfect fit for me ...it is sized just right for me and the wife....im about 5'10" or 11" tall and about 190 ....pattys a dollar and small change .....i think im going to make her a trike in the future ...i just dont think she can handle any thing else

i also realy like the 1000s frame smaller wheelbase ...they seem very nimble ..one day when i get smarter i want to make a realy updated wing ...but not in the crotch rocket catigory something else

gee westgl project 1500 sounds cool ... trike and bike ...well fellows i think westgl is as far out there as me ....and appears better funded :smilie_happy: ....anyway im happy hes here ...he like me thinks anything can be built better .....in music ive always said you cant write it down till you can play it ....music always before the map of how to ...im going to have to read up some on the 1500 ..i never have yet

cant wait till westgl stips this baby so we can see how skinny it can get .... doing radicle mods on oldwings is my favorite hobby ...only music moves me more
