I use the 34-3 with electric choke, it makes starting quick and easy. Your video showed the gauge with motor warm on start, how does it start with cold engine. I have had several 1950 thru 1960 Jeeps, and the carb you are using is used on the old flat head four, a very reliable carb. My experience with these carbs is why I was sure the single carb set-up would work, but I was amazed they work so well, with no mods.

Cold start this morning at 57 degrees.

This is after having run it yesterday. Typically she starts much harder after sitting a week or so though I haven't tried that with this carb.

For a cold engine start, that was pretty good!

I liked my single barrel carbs in my boat and my old '68 Dodge Dart (both had a Chrysler slant six). Even our old '63 Rambler inline six had a single barrel carb. Any of those engines had more power than I ever thought possible for a six cylinder and those single barrel carbs were even easy enough for dumb old me to work on!

Cold engine running with the choke engaged, ride out isn't going to happen.
Engine needs to be warmed for a good 5 minutes or more before the choke can be turned mostly off so it will accelerate.
I'm pulling the carb to look at the accel pump. I think if it was working cold starts may not need this choke and ride off would be sooner, besides which the accelerator passage is used as a high load enrichment so it should be cleared. Probably a piece of crap got in the jet.

Today's 160 mile ride, about 1/2 freeway 70 mph, 1/2 through town stop and go and twisties.
Raced my son once. His SI is fast so he got me. I stopped at 90 mph, he got to 120.

39 mpg.
Happy I finally got mpg back close to what I was getting on the 1100 engine with a single.
Nice improvement over the dft @ 33 mpg.

I thought the solex was a single throat carb, did you mean double?
Good MPG by the way, congrats on that.
Guess I meant to say that I got 41 mpg when running a single (carb) on the 1100.

39mpg is very respectable.
Especially at 90mph!

For those still following, you know that I modded the Cycle Innovations manifold with 1" PVC sleeves.
This made the manifold usable. Before this mod acceleration was sluggish. Going richer on primary jet helped but that's counterproductive for economy.

I jetted the carb best I believe it can be on this modded manifold which ran very good and got me 39 mpg.
I'm not happy with it though because idle would waver and sometimes load up from over rich, as well there is no heat added to it.
The CI is a fair manifold, I just don't like it. It is too large in my experience.

So I've gone back to my custom 1" runners with the type 4 plenum.
On this build I have a heat plate.

I'm happy with the running.
It idles steady and plugs look pretty good at idle. Not as clean as I'm after yet.
On a test ride I immediately felt better throttle response where CI felt lagging.
Take offs are smooth and high rpm power and 'racing' the bike is enjoyable with plenty of git up.
I am sure some will disagree but I don't see any reason for a second barrel once everything is configured properly. Least not in my case with my runners and a type 4 plenum.

I'm going to continue tweaking the idle mixtures to get it leaner. Likely my next move is more idle air bleed on this Solex but the dft's are staying on the shelf.

41 mpg on my manifold!

The dft and my manifold got 41 mpg on the 1100 engine.
The same setup moved over to the 1200 engine got 33 mpg.
Curious now what the setup with the Solex would do on the 1100!

Dan, did you notice a large power gain with the 1200 over the 1100? or was it close with only a loss of MPG ?
I felt more lower rpm torque. Not a huge increase but noticeable.
The 1100 I had in this bike I was running early 1000 cams. That setup shined at 5-7000 rpm.
