Honda claims 94hp with the stock carbs. After reading all the conversion pages, I haven't seen any objective testing results published. Most conversions seem to provide easier maintenance (1 carb vs 4), but I haven't ran across any results that compare horsepower/torque before and after the conversion. I'm looking for dyno tests, 1/4 mile ETs, top end results, anything that objectively proves 1 is better than 4 for performance. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

Randakk has dyno test results for the Gl1000 with regular carbs vs 2 dual-throated carbs that show an increase over the stock hp. Think he could be talked into doing the same tests on the Gl1200?

Most of us are frugal or limited in cash. So far I've not read of any of these build being tested on dyno. If you want to put such a test on your tab I'm sure you can find a few takers.

we should start a gofundme to put hooch on a dyno
That'd be a good idea. Keeping in mind Hooch is anything but stock.

That's why hooch is the perect for the idea lol

I've talked with Joe a few times on this. I think he'd be willing to have the test done if the cost was covered. Now the question is how much the local facility charges and can we get enough donations to cover the tab. I'd be willing to chip in some.

Mostly - dyno testing is an excellent tuning aid that is much safer than high speed road testing. That's why it's excellent for initial setup prior to actual competition. It doesn't really "prove" much unless you test the same machine ("before-and-after") on the same dyno, with the same dyno software, on the same day with the same weather and the same (skilled) dyno operator. In my experience, a fair number of dyno operators are not really very familiar with their equipment.

The absolute values derived aren't usually that important or meaningful. The relative values after changing a single variable are much mote important.

Before and after dyno testing will usually cost about $200 and up depending on how much time is actually needed to make changes.

Thanks for the explanation of a dyno test, If it was perfect and gave absolutes, they would be on every corner. I had been embarrassed to ask just what is a Dyno.

And therein lies a problem. Dyno testing would only show what Hooch puts out NOW....but you would have no numbers to compare it to from before all the mods. Granted, it would be kewl just to see what that monster can do, numbers-wise, but it just wouldn't be a useful comparison to anyone else's bike. I doubt Joe would be willing to put it all back stock to get a baseline, either... :hihihi:

Here's a dyno comparo of with/without nitrous... :hihihi:

Been using the same Dyno and operator for years , Watched a guy bragging about his Hardley at Myrtle beach bike week just before he went on the Dyno for a couple pulls , he just had his motor built for around 5 grand ? he was talking like it was gonna have 200 HP ? so up he went , Put our hands over our ears !! Damn thing was LOUD !! hahaha well 98 HP , Dyno tech felt sorry for him and Pumped up his Rear tire 10 Lbs and got 2 more HP so he could have a least 100 HP bragging rights , so the story is true the Dyno can give you different results just by a little Air in your Tire, Put My Gl1500 up and Blasted 144 Hp after him with just bolts on power adders.

Published Honda horsepower numbers of this era are often taken directly off the engine. They are considerably higher than actual delivered power measured at the rear wheel. The difference is quite for shaft-driven bikes.

Seems that i read it was in the 20% range, for conversion of power to the shaft. :headscratch: Memory malfunctions sometimes.
