Okay so I will just insert the 7v reg in-line with the main clocks, the new ones are straight 12v so need no regulator.
I don't get why they did this for the supplementary clocks. their cars all use 12v.

Green black does go to the 7v output of the voltage regulator so you will need a voltage reducer. If you don't want the bulk of the original vibrating contact regulator you could use an ic voltage regulator which could be placed in the bottom of the tacho etc.

I though t I bought a replacement off here, but just took a look at the envelope and it is an EGR workaround for a Mercedes Benz ML270. Could have sworn I bought one off here. If I did don't know where it is now. so I will have to use the 7 volt reg for the water temp in the rev counter but the VDO's,can be wired right in. Okay.

Also my new tyres arrived today Michelin Pilot Active front and rear. So in the morning I will be fitting the bearings to the rear wheel and then comes the choice, Tubed or Tubeless. They are tubeless. But I was thinking of using that stuff one is called Ride On Motorcycle Tire Balancer and Sealant and the other is Goop? Ah yes I knew there was something else, regulator I will be making a new wiring loom. I have a used one, not the one on my bike it is butchered, but a new used one to me, that I was going to use as a model for new wire. So out of concern for electrical items that haven't been used for 15 years and they are 30 years old now I have decided to get some new items IE starter solenoid, those sort of things. but now comes the rub the regulator.

No I have seen on here people say use a new Rectifier/regulator. so I was looking at this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381225736185? ... EBIDX%3AIT now the question is is this the newer way to go, or is this the old way to go.

This is what I have now..https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1978-Honda-GL ... 5674e015aa

:salute: :thanks:

The newer reg/rec is better than the old separated regulator in my opinion. And is newer than what came on the bike. I've read this is an improvement over the stock reg/rec. Might be a model already set up for the wing. I haven't looked far.

i have done this mod recently after a fair bit of research, and also after speaking with Ansimp (Tony ) he is extremely knowledgeable on these matters..... :music:
the main thing to make sure of is getting the right reg/rec. one with FH in the part no
basically , the stock system uses two components to regulate the charge, controlled in part by a "sense " wire. this wire can give false readings caused by poor connections etc,
the new reg/rec controls the charge rate by internal switching. a better system, in my opinion.
here is one thread on the subject..

Tony, have you installed it yet?
Still haven't put one in the Rats Nest but I have used it in a customers bike. Aussiegold is also running one in his Gl1000. One of these days I will pull the Vetter and shelter and do the conversion with associated testing

all good so far with mine. runs at 13.7 ( headlight on , on my meter ) at any revs.
i might add that my stock reg and rec were operating well. i changed mine ..... because i can ? ha ha. just thinking it will be better for the stator ?
a minor fiddle about to change the plugs to suit , but i like fiddling with wings.... :moped:
here is a good bit of info, with a further link... https://www.wingovations.com/regulator-r ... 4579471117

So I was asked politely if I would post some more pics, as it was difficult to envisage the bike so to speak so I have tried to convey the bike, a lot is missing and it is a sort of dry run but should give an impression..

So balanced the tank in there and the inner part of the fake tank.

And should be able to see the front wheel too.

So I hope that this will give some sort of "idea" in general terms of what the bike is going to look like, just imagine that the side panels and false tank sides are being done in Cherry Black. Engine now that is a problem. What the hell do I do with that. colour wise, I have sort of played with the idea of a similar Gold that the wheels are done in with cherry/black and chrome /polished rocker covers and front Forks bottoms the same cherry black.

Oh and don't forget I got some rear hard panniers that have to be fitted too they are on this thread somewhere, but going to paint them cherry black too.

It's gonna look like an Arc Flash in the night. All that polished aluminum behind the cherry black will be like sudden sunlight to see. :clapping:
