Over the years I have restored a few bikes, nothing like some on this forum and definitely not close to the video posted above but I'm getting better. :clapping:

I painstakingly keep all my receipts and just totaled what I have put into this one so far, with more parts on the way. I'm at about $500 which isn't bad considering the high prices for these old bikes. :fiddle:

I have never dropped the cash for a professional paint job and have decided to go ahead and try it. :rocks: :salute:

Still considering a theme and of course a color scheme. :help:

Thoughts? :help:

Paint gun, compressor, hose and paint can often be less cost that a professional paint job. Learning might take a bit though depending on desire and aptitude. Color choice and scheme depend some on the style of build. Standard with bags, Standard, Chopped,Bobber, etc. What style build do you like and what colors do you prefer?

Watched that at the same time I was listening to long lost Van Morrison albums.

Rave on John Dunne, and I am inarticularly speaking from the heart here.

Thank you. Awesome renovation!!

Makes mine look like Sh!t but that's okay, there's always someone better at it than you are. :builder: :good:

Initially, I wanted to do something way out of the ordinary and comfort zone with a clever "steampunk" theme but since then, I am really wanting to just go with a clean stock look, with no bags.
In terms of color and patterns, deep red but not fire engine red, a deep red with a little black sounds good.
Modify the seat to accent the "naked " look too.

There is some big money in that one. Looks like one of the Japanese reworking of an early Z1 etc with late model suspension which they are asking $40k for.

I was suggesting basic shape and color not the complete build.
:good:

Taking parts to paint shop today. Still leaning to "plum", with GL1100 in silver on side covers. Will probably see another color i like once I'm there but oh well. :cheeky:

Hopefully estimate is reasonable :fiddle:

Well, parts are at paint shop. $700 which includes getting rid of the seams on top of the false tank. I went with a deep red outlined with silver /black. I have never had a bike professionally painted so I'm excited even though they charge an arm and a leg!
Also, my fork seals and bushings are in so I can get started on those. I also opted to put a 1979 gl 1000 chrome front fender on. Picked one from eBay for a mere $25.
Now, time to get to work. Below are some pics of new pieces with part #'s . Also bought a new master cylinder and lever since the original was shot !
