The black plastic cable attachment piece and the cable clamp should look familiar to ya'll.

Full choke and some throttle, crank a bit and open choke a 1/4, starts right up at 45 degrees.
Without choke it was just too hard on the starter.

Global warming has really set in here so temps can be in the 20's some times and the 40's later that same day, so a choke is a necessity for me. Good info and glad to see it working.

Cool! Gotta have a choke for the cold.

Also handy to diagnose fuel faults with a choke :good:

well did anyone think that a choke was out of the question ...sheesh ....I have my choke hook up just not like this .....ive notice some have taken the linkage off completely .....I don't think that really a good idea ...dans choke looks perfect operates nice

I had hoped I could get away without a choke, and I could in temps over 70 degrees and before the last step leaner in the primary and idle jet.
I was so sure I could do without it I was about to remove the choke plates.

This morning start at 45 degrees starts up quick though there's some coordination between pulling the choke off some and opening the throttle.
Once running I lock the throttle at 2500 and open choke full.
After a couple minutes running heat comes on at the plenum base and speed can be dropped to 1500 then a minute or 2 later dropped to idle.

Started this morning a different way that's easier to do ,,,,

Give it just a bit of throttle,
Hit start button,
Pull choke toward closed position til it starts then open full,
Hold throttle at 2500.

Less coordination this way, starts faster and don't have to do any throttle twists to pump gas in first.

Out of curiosity, do you (or anyone else for that matter) always twist the throttle to pump the gas before starting OEM and single carbs? :headscratch:

I ask only because no matter the outside temp, if I pull my choke out all the way and just hit my start button it always starts first time...no twisting ever needed. As a matter of fact, it I twist the throttle while the choke is on, the bike will stall.

your bike runs rather well Gerry ....my angry dresser ran that way when it had 1100 carbs on it ...when there in good working order as yours are and mine was and the iggy good they run and start well ..when I went to 1000 carbs that changed ....lots of differences in the stock racks ... 1200 are sweet also ....weber for me though ... they run entirely different and where they need to ....

but there are some nice running stock set ups out there for sure

With the stock rack mine would start without a throttle twist.
It would have to crank quite a bit to start if not started for a couple days and 50 degrees or lower.
Mine would never run very smooth on that first start or for the first few minutes running. I'd have to play with the choke to get a steady fast idle and to keep it running.

If I get a chance, I will put mine out in the snow for a few hours and then give it a try. It is currently 29 degrees here and last night I started her up in the garage which is at around 42 degrees. Started right up.
