    Stator gone, oh what fun.

Update: I won't bore you with details but lets just saycolor blindness and electrical wiring don't work well together. Anyway, the bike is running but still not charging. I guess I need to do more research. Is the regulator the next thing to check?

    Stator gone, oh what fun.

It's electronic ignition, not sure if it's a dyna or not. i've been dreading an electrical problem with this bike because the wiring is a serious frankenstein job. there is no point system.

    Stator gone, oh what fun.

One ground connects below the shifter pedal and the other goes on the other side to a head bolt right? If it's just those two then they are tight

    Stator gone, oh what fun.

Okay so I got the new stator in and got the bike all zipped up, or so I thought. Something electrical is not right. I only get spark when I turn the key, but not when I hit the ignition button. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. :help:

    Stator gone, oh what fun.

Stator on my 78 GL1000 finally went. My 5 amp fuse for brake lights had blown and I only had a 10 amp to replace it with. Shortly after my neutral light started staying on all the time but dimmer when not actually in neutral. Shortly after that my stator went completely. Not sure if these...

    Head Gasket

Bike is overheating and there's coolant in the head of the 3rd cylinder. I'm in Whiting Iowa. Luckily that's where I was headed for a job but it's ending in a couple of weeks and my options are limited. Can I make it the 7 hour trip to Chicago from here if I stop a lot and refill the coolant...

    Electrical and other issues...

I've cleaned and tightened all the grounds that i've followed. Is there anywhere that would tell me where they all are for a 1978 gl1000. Also at the end of my tinkering today there was a connection to the front left of where the airbox is that was super hot. My wiring diagram doesn't even...

    Electrical and other issues...

Okay, thanks everybody. The ticking noise and bogging down went away shortly after changing the spark plugs but not right away. I changed the flasher bulb and still no flash on the right side. The right rear light comes on but the front right doesn't come on at all. I found a connection that...

    Electrical and other issues...

Long time no see everybody. I'm in trouble again but luckily i'm not on the road. My right hand turn signal light burned out and was causing the 15A fuse to blow everytime i'd forget and use my turn signal. Before I realized it was the light I was following the wiring looking for bare wire...

    1500 MILES!

Well I finished my trip from upstate New York to sunny Florida with only minor hiccups along the way. One thing is that after this trip I would guesstimate my wing to run at about 30 mpg. I'm curious what you other classic wingers get off yours and who you think is a likely culprit for gas...

    Losing Power on Highway

Thanks everybody for the advice and concern. I AM back on the road. Seemed to be the vent in the gas cap like Joe and Dan suggested. I am very relieved that that was all...this forum is the greatest resource and you guys are awsome.
