I'm fortunate in that I've been riding rigid framed bikes for years and year. It will still feel like a Cadillac for me, and purr like a kitten, straight pipes or no....But yeah, I remember the Wings when they were new and they just seemed huge as huge could be. Good times.

Is there a way to tell which header that is?

Will do that. I'm terrible but looking forward to trying. I got the bike for $400, so no matter what I do I can't do too much wrong, really. I really love the look of the duals, so I'll probably go that route for no better reason than that. I found the bike I was talking about with the straight...

This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm getting rid of the air shocks on my '81. Looks like I can get some short but heavy duty rear coilover shocks for the rear courtesy of HD, but I didn't know what to do about the front end. So just to make sure I have this right, I can throw progressive...

Thanks. I appreciate the info. That may have to wait for next year. I don't think I really need to do anything to it at the moment, just thought Neon coils and maybe some Accel 8.8s might be a cheap upgrade--and kind of cool. Think I'll try to get away with the cheaper mod for now. I'm new to...

Yeah, I need to look at that. Not sure yet of which headers I can use on this. I saw a build on NGW where the guy just had the headers into a very short straight pipe and I liked that look, but I can't find that thread. Thought that maybe with richer running duals I could get away something like...

Yeah, I dread the thought of tackling the head gasket issue, but I suppose I will. I have to pull the motor to put in the new stator, so I may as well go all the way and do the head gaskets and belts at the same time. (I really am a terrible mechanic.) I'm definitely tossing the carbs and going...

Thanks. I appreciate the thought, but I got a set of cast off eBay for $250 delivered. They are nice and came with really good tires, but I see after looking at them that I will need to have them powder-coated. Seriously thinking about putting an oven in my garage and learning to do that myself...

A heads up: I also joined NGW, and this is what I posted there after getting "Peach". Still holds true, though I am finding myself inclined toward slightly more significant changes, like dual carbs, ignition upgrade, etc...... *** I was a Harley rider for a long time, but sold my last ('73...

Hello to all. I am the brand new owner of a $400 1981 GL1100 and this looked like a good place to be. I have been trying to read a lot about the GLs, so I joined Classic Goldwings and NGW and both look to have tons of info for everyone from beginners like me to those more experienced with both...
