    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Bought some long 1/2” shrink tubing from Harbor Freight (only place I could find a long piece and not have to buy 100 ft). Fed left control wires through it, cut to length, and shrunk it down. Rubbed down the tubing with talc to lube it. Then, snaked it into the left side of the new Emgo CB750...

    Reserve Lighting Unit

I've seen several posts in forums giving detailed instructions.

    1975 GL1000 Overcharging

Yes, clean the connectors on the sense lead to the regulator, and if that doesn't do it, you will need to replace your rectifier and regulator with a combo reg/rect as I don't believe the regulators are made anymore. I had to do that on one bike.

    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Back at it! July 3rd the prostate was pulled. September 4th the AC joint was drilled and tied up. Been doing PT since. Today, ortho said I am free to lift carefully and work on the bike. Today, both the speedo and tach faces were renewed, plus the speedo lube thinned out for it to start working...

    What's the trick?

Remove thr lever pivot bolt and put the end into the lever, then re-mount the lever.

    what did you do today

Post-surgery follow-up with the ortho. I can take the sling off! Still 3x a week PT for 6 weeks to get full ROM, and after that start to build strength.

    Tachometer/speedometer rebuild kits? Or replacement?

No idea, but at approaching 50 years age, it appears to harden. I found that the very thin silicone oil (spray cans found at auto parts stores) applied with a toothpick thins it out pretty well, and the silicone oil doesn't seem to gum up with age (we'll know for sure 50 years from now). For...

    Tachometer/speedometer rebuild kits? Or replacement?

I've done a couple. Getting it open and closed again is the hard part I have found that part of a drop of silicone spray lubricant on the needle bearing softens the old grease and permits it to function properly again.

    Parts Wanted Here goes !!

Congrats on finding the left side cover. I feel that they are so scarce, because folks pull them to jump flat batteries, then in a hurry do not attach them properly. There are probably thousands laying ditches.

    Tired of the wobble

I'd say new steering head bearings should go a long way.

I want to get an older goldwing.

Welcome. Comstars on the GL1000s ('78 and 79) were not tubeless., although tubeless tires could be run on them (with tubes, of course). I would guess that the earliest would be '83 which I think had cast wheels. BTW, all of the GoldWings were great for long distance riding.

    what did you do today

I prefer to get it all cut out. Radiation (even protons) always leave a bit of collateral area damage, and at least my bowels function well. Also, if any gets away from the knife, rad can be used - not vice versa. Surgeon has said only one month after surgery until able to ride. We have a proton...

    Better seat?

I have replaced the foam in seats with carpet padding. If the cover is good and you can get it off without damage, heating on reassembly should help it conform to any "sculpting" you might do to the foam. Multiple layers of rebond carpet pad (many dealers or installers will give away scraps)...

    Better seat?

You can re-shape your foam with an electric carving knife. But, it sounds like you might have an aftermarket King & Queen seat. They are awful. A seat for a "standard" might fit.

    Post 2k mile mechanical issues

The boots are usually pretty easy to pull back if you heat them up first. Hair dryer or heat gun - get them warm, but don't over-do. Should be pretty pliable then. If the U-joint is shot, an ebay drive shaft would be my choice to replace. There is a spring-loaded cushion in the engine that...

    Any bike shows coming up

You just missed the Possum Gathering a few weeks back. Keep an eye on the Time Warp FB page https://www.facebook.com/groups/twvmc/. They sometime post them up. We won't be having one at church this year as I am having two surgeries. Oh yeah, Honda Knoxville will have a show on Sept 14th. They...

    No club for me here

I'm kind of off bikes for a while due to a separated AC joint, but still congregate almost weekly at Twisters Diner in Knoxville on Tuesdays when the Time Warp Vintage Motorcyle Club gathers to eat, check out each others rides, bench race, swap lies, etc. I drive, or ride the Spyder for now...

    Coulda been werse...

in 2016 a similar thing happened to me. But, I did go down - minor damage to me and the bike. I was looking over my right shoulder for an opening in the right lane in preparation to merging from the center lane on I40 downtown Knoxville rush hour. When I looked back to the front, the SUV in...
