Update!! Took her out again and she’s not smoking as badly now. Bike runs really well actually 😀 no leaks so far , she’s practically a new bike with rebuilt forks plus progressive springs, rebuilt stock fuel pump( just took apart and cleaned) , new tires, seat , paint just to name a few. Will...

I hope so! I took her out for a ride today and she had some get up and go!! Some tweaking needed but shifts nicely. Still smoking quite a bit though

Geesh !! After months of building.... I finally reached the point of starting her up today! Mind you ... I went into this blindly as the engine that was purchased had already been removed from a different bike. I might be reacting too soon but tremendous amounts of smoke is coming out both...

So I’ve transplanted a good engine but it’s off of an interstate. The bike I’m rebuilding is an aspencade. I would like to keep the aspencades digital speedo setup , which also has an elaborate digital gear change screen. Here’s the issue, the wiring on the transplanted engine is only a single...

I have removed the 50 year old rubber brake lines and replacing with braided stainless. On this 83 the front calipers are different sizes but I still want to run each on their own line to one master cylinder on handlebars. Will this work?

Everything is so expensive!! If I added up all the $$$ I’ve spent over the years rebuilding these old bikes I would probably get sick but..... I enjoy the hobby! Rebuilding brake calipers and kits run around $30 per caliper.! Absolutely ridiculous prices for a few pieces of rubber :(

So I’m still restoring my 1983 1100 aspencade. Found a replacement engine , prepped and painted it . Then installed in freshly painted frame. The rear rubber boot was shot so found this at autozone ($20) and after a little trimming, she fit like a glove.

    I’m back!

Yep, crazy lights and all have been removed! I completed my single carb install and she started right up. These machines are amazing! Should have seen the look on the neighbors faces when I took her around the block. Bike is fully stripped. I did change the oil and no concerns there. I’m going...

    I’m back!

So.... Gl 1100 is sidelined and here’s my 1200 just purchased for a mere $200. This bike had more lights on it than a Xmas tree! Stripped her down and installed single carb. Plan is to totally redesign.

Switching over to 1200 forum. Just installed my single carb 😀

    I’m back !!

I’m going to keep the 1100 but I’m busy with my 1200. 88,000 miles and it looks as if someone has been into the clutch which I bled today and she shifts nicely when parked. Po said he rebuilt carbs but could never get the bike to idle or stay running. Gas tank is surprisingly clean, fuel pump...

    I’m back !!

Well, I bought this today . It runs and only cost me $200. I will set the 1100 aside for now.

    I’m back !!

I’m done!! I have purchased many gold wings over the years and never had issues with a frozen engine! This is my first and my patience is wearing thin! I have soaked the crankcase and even ran an aquarium pump through it for 3 days. I have plugged the exhaust manifold and filled spark plugs...

    I’m back !!

Running a mixture of diesel and mm oil from an aquarium pump. Hopefully in a few days she’s free. Here’s a pic of my last wing I built.

    I’m back !!

Just curious as to how much it would cost me to rebuild this engine if need be. I’ve rebuilt a 1200 Yamaha but just the 2nd gear .... slightly confident I can do this. Will need some tools of course. Anyone done this?

    I’m back !!

Okay, so the engine has been soaking all week. I have tried each day rocking it back and forth in high gear. No luck. Next step is to somehow plug the exhaust ports to reach the top end of pistons. After that I will try the main crank bolt. If that does not work I have 3 options. 1) try the...
