    JustBill's '83 Aspencade Restoration

The new fork seals are great! Went for a ride yesterday and it rode like a new bike! Now it looks like I will need to do the rear shocks as well! They are leaking also. Does anyone know if it is possible to add a MP3 input to the Clarion radio?

Hi, I am working on the front fork seals. I have the left side apart and back together. How much oil goes into these? In the manual section I found that an '82 calls for 9.8oz. Is that the same for the '83?

    JustBill's '83 Aspencade Restoration

Well, I got the Aspencade out for it's first ride today! Everything went pretty well except for the front fork seals are leaking, I have new seals and will have to put them in. I rode to a Honda dealer to get some fork oil. I am going to try the 20wt. Is that the best choice? Also, it ran...

Thanks for the offer 1060. I will let you know. The tail light issue is in the key switch contacts. If you wiggle the key just right it works! Now, I need to figure out the turn signals! I picked up a new flasher but got a 2 prong, guess I need 3! Here's a pic of my valve covers. Are these OEM...

Also, my turn signals are acting a bit funny. It seems to take a few minutes of being on before they start working. Could that be the contacts in the thumb switch?

I'm still working on wiring! Every accessory wire was either scotch locked or wires twisted together and taped! Does anyone have any suggestions about the regular tail light not working? It's the "brown wire" under the seat I know. There is a 5 amp fuse (Labeled Tail Light) in the fuse block...

Hi, It's been a crazy busy week, wash machine repair, sun. had a muffler come off a car, mon. had some brake work to do on another car, and the tranny went out on my van. When it rains it pours! I did get the wash machine fixed last night finally too! On the Aspy, I did manage to get the new...

    JustBill's '83 Aspencade Restoration

Well, today I pulled the radiator so I could get to the timing belts. Radiator removal was a bit challenging! It just didn't want to come out of the top. There were 2 small metal tabs at the top that seem to be in the way. Removing the timing covers was going good until the left side cover bolt...

Thanks Dan, My temporary battery was low, so, that could account for a lower reading. I'll be picking up a new battery soon and re-test. The yellow stator wire plug/connectors looked pretty good, I packed em with dielectric grease. Here's a question, How do I get the headlight/bulb out? Low...

Well, Good news tonight! I put the cleaned carbs back together and re-assembled them onto the bike. Pretty easy to do with the fuel tank being out of it. I then set up a small IV fuel tank i got at work (we make various fuel tanks as one of our many product lines). As soon as it got some gas...

Guess I haven't thought of the the radiator condition yet, thanks! There appears to be some type of red coolant in the coolant bottle. Do these typically use the red coolant or green? I was planning to drain and refill with Peak Antifreeze, as that was what I saw recomended somewhere.

    JustBill's '83 Aspencade Restoration

Hello, I picked up this '83 Aspencade last saturday. It hasn't run in probably 10-15yrs. The guy I got it from has had it for 6-7yrs. and had intentions of rebuilding, but he never got around to it. I told him I was looking for a bike and he offered to giver her up to me along with a '82...

    Rear wheel inner fender removal?

Chas, Your 83 and mine are pretty similar! Mine has a little more bling and lights though! LOL! It has a velour seat also, vs leather! I have never ridden a bike this big, I hope it's as nice as I have been reading about. I have my work cut out for me though. Carbs a really gummed up, gas tank...

Hi all! I have recently acquired a '83 Aspencade and am begining the restoration process. It has not run in 10+ years and is in great shape otherwise. I can see already after one weekend invested in it, I'm gonna need a lot of advise/tips! I want to go through everything and make sure it's ready...
