    Shift problems, 1000

I adjusted the cable up according to the manual and it changed nothing. It looks like I need to get into the back end, which if I'm looking at it right, requires the removal of the rear tire and dropping the exhaust out of the way. Don't have the time for that project right now, so it will have...

    Shift problems, 1000

thanks for the ideas! I'll read up on clutch adjustment. It shifts great out on the road, so I didn't think there was a problem with that, but it is definitely worth a look. I'll also try the drop-clutch in reverse thing,,,,,I'm due for a little luck!!!

    Shift problems, 1000

I posted this over @Saunders as well. I'm having trouble with a GL1000. I just ran it for the first time yesterday and it will not shift from first to neutral, or second to neutral while bike is running with clutch lever pulled to bar. As soon as I turn the bike off it shifts anywhere I want...

    Iron Butt - Alaska Style!!!!

The frost heaves can be useful...... My dad was a state trooper and used the frost heaves to put an end to a car chase. People that did not know the roads that he patrolled were usually persuaded to stop.....either by catching some unexpected air and unexpected soiling in their undergarments...

    Iron Butt - Alaska Style!!!!

Nice ride!! I'm too old to do that, but I sure would like to make that trip...at a more leisurely pace! We homesteaded at Delta Junction in 1959 (I was three) WAAAAYYYYY better place to grow up that Trenton New Jersey!!!! We'll make it up there soon. Our youngest still lives in Fairbanks. What...

    Tire recomendation

I put a set of the Metzlers on my 87 when I did the first tire change after acquiring this bike. I liked the way they handled and they were great on wet roads. I pulled the rear off after about 5000 miles. The tread was still showing a lot of life left, but the tire developed several cracks in...

Harbor freight lift table anyone trust this lift?

The table comes with a a wheel-stop and a separate clamp set-up. I took mine off and got a bent-tubing type chock to put on, but have not done so yet. The last few times I used it I did not have a front wheel holder of any type on the table, which was not a problem as one of these times it was...

Harbor freight lift table anyone trust this lift?

Yup, that's the one in my garage. I picked it up used (didn't have the ramp). It picks up my 87 just fine. mine has the foot pump and requires about 60 pumps, if I recall. It is slower than the air-assist types, but then I didn't pay for that either. I strap the bike down prior to raising the...

    12/25 had to ride.

Went to Spokane on Christmas. Told the wife "dang, if there was some way to get to the highway we could have ridden the bike!" The county roads are all slush and frozen patches, plus I don't think I could have made it out the driveway!

Road Trip: KY to AK and back

My wife and I made a run to Alaska summer before last. We got some advise from an Alaskan rider that served us VERY well. Do not pass up an OPEN gas station. A lot of the fuel stops shut down early, some are out of business, one we got to about 5:30 one evening just as the proprietor was...

Merry Christmas from the Pacific Northwest !

Just found this site and thought I'd better get in and look around a bit. I am always interested in finding out more about my machine and what other folks have found out about theirs. I'm from Alaska, but have to admit the riding season is somewhat longer down here! We even did a first this...
