    GL1100 Front Engine Renewal Project

Okay just as a refresher I tried the build with no success. I have the full gasket set. I have a new oem water pump. Just curious how to get the water seal out. Thanks

    GL1100 Front Engine Renewal Project

Does the water pump seal just pull out for replacement or does the housing need to be removed to drive it out from the rear? I tried to wiggle it out but it wasn't cooperating. Just checking to see how I need to persuade the bugger it needs to come out!

    GL1100 Front Engine Renewal Project

Any tips on getting the dowel pins removed? I think those were what was giving me a hard time getting my cover off. Looks like they're corroded or something. I put some kroil on them to try to loosen them up. I can get new ones I just don't want to mess up the covers removing the old ones.

1986 GL1200 Water Pump Rebuild by backlander

Okay thanks, this is my first goldwings and my first bike in a dozen years. I haven't had it on the road yet. It was a project bike from the get go. I'm really hoping to ride it next summer. It started as an interstate but it was dropped by one of the PO so I decided to go the naked gold wing...

1986 GL1200 Water Pump Rebuild by backlander

The bearing sleeves just weren't moving. I used some penetrating oil but perhaps I didn't give it enough time. I'll try to take a picture and post it. Maybe 34 year old water pump was just stuck. That and some good wacks from a hammer on the socket I was using to try to push it out.

1986 GL1200 Water Pump Rebuild by backlander

Anyone beside me happen to break the waterpump housing trying to drive the old bearings out? I'm glad I can still buy a new one. Perhaps I'll keep working on some old pumps to see of I can rebuild one as a spare.

How should I feel about this?

Removed rear wheel and popped in spacer. Torqued axel nut and now wheel rolls like a dream! I have a quick semi related question though. The three nuts that hold the drive shaft to the final drive. Is there a trick to torquing some of those nuts? None of the torque wrenches I have will fit in...

Has anyone done a writeup on the wiring when taking the fairing off and wired in a headlight and turn signals? Just curious.

How should I feel about this?

I have just done this exact same thing. Just to be clear when I pull the rear tire off again it will just slide into the final drive? Thanks
