19" comstar wheel 39mm forks single piston calipers

82
18" comstar wheel 39mm forks dual piston calipers

83
18" 11 spoke mag wheel 39mm forks dual piston calipers, anti-dive linked brakes

turns out there are many options, i'll start with a few

-complete1200 front end is a bolt in requiring a fork stops mod

-1200 wheel will bolt into a 83 front end/forks but requires mods

-comstars can be converted to spokes & diff rim sizes

-pretty sure magna sabre wheels can be used

-any 39 & 41mm forks/wheels combo can be considered

picked up a 1200 front 16" mag wheel and 1100 discs bolt up, that's prob a plus as far as a wheel bolt on scenario

anyone try it? are the 1200 discs the same diameter? depth/offset?

pretty sure the axle is the same diameter

actually i did see a thread (SuperSkypilot i think) using the 16" front wheel with 83 front end, but needed mods,

i'll see with 82

I just put the complete front end from a 84 aspy on my 82 standard. I used the calipers from the 82 because the 84 had different size pistons on each side. the (used) pads on the 82 calipers fit over the vented discs of the 84 rotors. The fork stops are just fine.

The piston's are sized that way because of integrated brake system. A friend & I changed a 83 to a 1200 front end, because fork's were bad, on his 83. His brakes seemed to fit, till he rode it. Brakes bound up, caliper pin's & holes in pad's & mounting bracket's didn't match. He had to use 1200 brake's to get it to work right

did you measure the ride height? (same ? for Wolfie666) dunno if the overall length is the same, if yes then i assume the 1200 forks are a tad longer, seeing as it went with a 16" wheel (vs 18" on the 82)

i don't wanna lose ~ 2" of ground clearance bolting up the 1200 16" front wheel on the stock 1100 forks, gonna check to see if doable tho,

maybe the 1200 gets some height (or ground clearance) back by modding the triple tree (vs the 1100)?

I just went out and did some measurements, but it's coooooold out in the shop.
The 1100 wheel AND the 1200 wheel measured at 13" edje of tire to center of axle.
But this is with the tire on.
The forks measured within a 1/2'' of each other, about 30" for the 1200 and 30 1/2" for the 1100.
if you need any other measurements... say the word...

meant same question for Denver

82a my friend wanted to lower seat height, 2" on wheel lowers 1" on height. he said DISK"S worked fine, but liked asp discs when calipers failed to work. so he got calipers & disks off asp & loves the result. he is in process of 1200 swing arm to lower rear of scooter he will be able to flat foot it at last.

found that info for 84 wheel in 83 1100 forks
https://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-g ... e-iii.html
The front end is basically a 84 wheel and rotor mounted on a 83 front fork.
The wheel and rotors were to wide for the fork and the 1200 calipers so some quality time on the Bridgeport was called for. I milled the caliper brackets down by about 1/4" and turned the pivot down by the same amount on the lathe.

tx Wolfie666 for those measurements

Now I know what needs to be done to put the 1200 wheel in to the 83 forks it might be what I use. For those worried about losing ground clearance there is an answer although it might not be cheap. Years ago at Champion Sidecars when we brought out the modified triple clamps to kick the 1500's wheel forward to reduce trail for lighter sidecar steering we had the issue with ground clearance loss. At first we made aftermarket fork tubes available to regain the height but soon learned they were not the quality needed. They soon started destroying fork seals and also the cost of the tubes and installation was too high. I decided the answer was to make up some longer fork caps. I added 1 1/4" to the stock size and that allowed the tubes to be pushed down in the clamps regaining the ground clearance. Most sidecar companies soon started doing the same.

I got this idea from my 1500 wing with the champion kit on it...
Although I made these about 2 inches +.

No, only one, the other "groove" is for the 1200 air balancer collar ring.

Oh yeah. Been so long since I had a 1200 I forgot about that.
