Hello everyone. I am a newbie here and with my '82 aspy. I believe it needs carb. rebuild, and quite a bit of TLC. The good news is I have found randakks and saber cycle. I plan on rebuilding them myself, With the help of the manual provided @ randakks. I am concerned about the smoking problem however. It smokes on startup, then gets better for a while, then gets worse when warmed up. The only info I have right now is from my dad as I am a truck driver. Haven't even seen the bike in person yet. Any advice is appreciated.
Where there's a wheel there's a way. :ahem:

:hi: well hurricane sounds like the bike is also new to you....do you know if it has sat for a while? smoking on start may not be too much of a concern... first make sure you shut off the gas...if the petcock leaks it can put gas into the engine which is burnt off on starting... the smoking after it warmes up could be a problem...however first put some miles on the bike to make sure the rings are seated also add some ATF to the gas (6oz per tank)then ride ride ride. if it continues to smoke after several hundrad miles but exibits no other systoms then you might think about some other fix..... :music: Welcome to the forum Bob

Will do, but she's not ready for ridin just yet, tires are shot as well. Compound problem as far as all the fun of gettin her ready for the road again :builder: parts etc... but have found that cgw has the answers that we all need to get these awesome machines back in shape.

:hi: We love the restorations past pix and keep us informed on your progress...ask questions someone will have the answer.. all of us are in the process of restoration or have been... these babies take a lot of love and attention....but mostly theb are fun to ride...LOL on your efforts they will be well worth it..... :salute:  :builder: :yahoo: :whistling:

Welcome to the CGW Forums, hurricane!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Plenty of fine folks and help here! :good:

Before you run it much change the timing belts how to's on several sites on the net, then remove and rebuild carbs, clean the gas tank..or at least check it out for rust and goop, ..use Randakk's parts..a note on Sable cycle..lots of wrenchers won't use them ..very bad customer service and attitude..beware..cheap prices can cost you more int he long run..

belts, carbs, gas tank, valves, rear end splines, fluids, hoses, check water pump weep hole, always close petcock when you park it, once you have it running drain a quart o foil put in some diesel or MMO or kerosene run it for 100 miles easy, drain put in new oil and filter..this will clean out a lot of gunk that can foul you starter clutch and bottom end in general.

Randall has a very detailed starting up an old bike..read it.

Welcome aboard! Let us know when you have the bike at home and are ready to begin. You'll need to be our eyes, ears, nose and hands so be as descriptive as you can.

Bribery sometimes works but it can get expensive.

I had my daughters help strip the bike to the frame and do a restoration. I let them swap the engines, paint and all that ggod stuff. By making it a family event, my wife gave full thumbs up!! (Plus she really was looking forward to our own rides too :hihihi: )
