I've got 2 Goldwing problems with my 1983 honda Goldwing apenscade. problem one is it cranks fairly easy, but it will back fire out the left exhaust. engine runs rough. seems to be missing.has 43,000 miles on it. help!

problem two I reworked both rear master cyl. and the caliper on the rear of bike every thing look right, but it would not pump up. has no leaks. help! thanks in advance Gerald ramsey

The backfire is most likely because your carbs need to be cleaned and/or rebuilt.

The '83 has linked brakes. Here is the procedure from our gallery:

Assuming it sat for awhile, sounds like typical problems - carb rebuild obviously, as mcgovern61 said.

I'd probably just go ahead and do the full rebuild, unless you know they've been done recently.

For the brake issue, have you tried new fluid and a full bleed?

If you are nervous about rebuilding those carbs, get the full Randakks kit with the book. Follow the book carefully and your carbs will come out beautifully. My '83 aspencade carbs didn't even need vacuum synch adjustments, the bench synch was that close! It was my first set of cv carbs to rebuild.

I had all kinds of trouble bleeding my rear brake the first time I did it. Then I borrowed a mighty-vac kit from a friend, that did much better than before but didn't actually get it right, I ended up doing the majority of the fill with the mighty-vac and finishing off with a speed bleeder nipple, That got it dead right.

But mine is an 82 with separate front and rear brakes, when Mcgovern61 says that on your 83 you have a linked brake system, what he means is your back brake lever/master cylinder operate the back brake and the left front rotor. The front brake lever and master cylinder only operate the right front rotor, you have to understand and be mindful of this when you are bleeding.

but that said the Mighty-vac with speed bleeder nipples to finish off should still work a treat, because now you can suck on it from both ends, front and back.
