Hey gang, I see a post further down in this forum that lists the stock paint color
for 76 GLs as Candy Blue Green Special, PB2CS. My bike is a 76, but
it is a dark blue color, like a navy blue. Sure doesn't look Blue Green to me.
I've never seen a picture of another GL with this color paint.
The bike has been this color since my buddy bought it in 1986 with 22,000
miles on it. Has anyone ever seen another dark blue 76?

75 thru 77 show the Candy Blue Green Special as the only available blue. I'd love to see a picture of this color as I am trying to determine the colors used on my 86 so I can do some repainting. It is not painted the factory colors and the paint codes they used were not made available to me.

Mike, I'll post a pic of it once I get a few more posts on the forum.
I always thought it was the original paint when my buddy owned it.
But now that I own it and have been reading the forums, I'm beginning
to wonder.
No matter what, I'm getting the feeling that I'd like to repaint it a brighter
color. It's a dark blue bike with red and yellow pinstripes, a gray Windjammer
and black Bates saddlebags. In other words, a mish-mash of colors.
.....and the more I look at it, the less I like it. :(

Ok Mike, I uploaded some pictures to my gallery.
But I still can't link to them for some reason.
Anyway, click on the "total images" link under my
avatar on the left and take a look at the color of my bike.
It's been this color since my buddy bought it with 22,000 miles
on it waaay back in 1986. But I've never seen another like
it, which leads me to believe that it was repainted when it was
fairly new.

P.S. With my luck, the original color was probably the rare
Sulfur Yellow, which I think is beautiful!

Looks like the right color, to me. I had a bud back in the day that had one that was that color....don't know what the color was called, but it looked identical to yours.

Hey Joel, from what I can find out, the dark blue was called
Candy Grandeur Blue and was offered from 78 thru about 83 or so.
I'm guessing that someone repainted my 76 bike to look like one
of the newer ones.
Thanks for your reply

Bill, I got a message from one of the moderators. He says he thinks
the forum software is having a glitch when it comes to counting
the number of posts a person has.

Couple of possibilities here......someone did repaint (nice color). The original decals are available to make it look OEM. The tank and covers are from a newer '78-'79 and the bike was mixed and matched through a rebuild or the colors are original and someone figured out how to get Candy Grandeur Blue in '76 before it was offered as a color?

Update, pulled the sides off the fake tank today and found some
spots where the dark blue paint is chipped.
Found RED paint underneath. So it WAS repainted.
I'm just glad somebody didn't paint over a rare Sulfur Yellow bike.
