Hey Goldwinger dudes, Gal's, As some of you guys know we moved from KC to SA. tx a little while ago, well I had to go back to our house we own to check on things, the problem is it's 100 degrees + here in Texas, so I told the wife screw it I'll ride all night, and that's just what I did, I left at 7pm after a great meal with the family at a place called Jim's [yummy food there].. Instead of fighting the I-35 nightmare between SA. and Dallas I went up 281 highway, Guy's this is a great ride on a bike, no traffic hardly, nice road, scenic, takes a little while longer but Friday on I-35...It's insane...My plan was to bi-pass Austin and it worked perfectly...I decided to cut over off 281 to Fort Worth... Going thru Fort Worth was fine but the heat off the median barrier's on each side of the highway was pretty intense, a better word would be HOT as hell...The engine was hot but not over heating hot, I knew my fan was on because I could feel that hot air blowing back and after riding in the open country then coming back to the city you really feel the difference...It was probably still 100 out at 11pm that night...Oh and when I took that cross over from 281 to I-35 this person in a pickup truck almost killed me, I was taking a curve and going the speed limit and this person drove there truck straight in front of me, see there was a road they wanted to take and to heck with anyone coming their way, I missed his rear bumber by a hair, that made the hair on the back of my neck raise up, then I got a little mad for a bit but it went away... I made my way into Oklahoma, I stopped at a rest area to get off my butt, Man my butt needed some blood back in it.. Just before I got into Kansas there used to be a rest area and I was getting really tired and sleepy, I was looking forward to that rest area, they freakin closed it, ah man, I had to stop another 20 miles up at a truck parking area, you know where most the truckers rest in the middle of no-wheresville, so I pull in, and took the first place to I could find, I parked it at a angle so I could lay down on the street in front of the bike and used my leather jacket as a pillow and I just looked at those beautiful stars up above because they were all shining bright and I thanked them for letting me be there looking at them because I almost didn't make it there because someone was driving careless, I laid there and rested for about an hour, got up and rode on, got home about 11am, oh yeh, there was an older couple [ solid white hair] on a newer Goldwing pulling a trailer with guess what? They had their freaking white doggy between them, I shared the tollway with these fine folks, they saw I had a older wing and gave me a smile and wave. Now that's what I call beating the heat.... :smilie_happy: So I drove my pick up that was up there still down with more stuff and left the bike, I will go back up next weekend leave the truck there and ride the bike back again...See the Company will fly us back once a month to check on our home gotta have wheels there when we fly back that's why I'm leaving the truck or we would have to take a taxi everywhere and that ain't happening.., anyhow I wanted to share my adventure...Riding at night is pretty nice on these hot days...

Good to know you had a nice trip. Try to avoid more hair raising experiences they can cause much worse. It's starting to cool here in the buckeye state.

I used to love night rides, but after my uncle was airlifted to Duke Medical center after a close encounter with 6-10 deer (depending on the observer) and the number I have seen around dusk I am less than thrilled about it anymore. Still gonna be riding home tomorrow night after dark, 75 miles or so...live on the edge.

I'm like you Five, I used to love to ride at night and still do but really don't feel that comfortable anymore. I think everyones night vision deteriorates a little as you get older and I do slow down a little at night.
The bike I had until recently had the deer whistles on it when I got it and I am not going to claim they do any good but I never hit a deer with it so I saw them on sale at a local farm store the other day and bought a pair for the wing I have now. About $5 if I remember right. If nothing else, I think they look kinda cool.
I can say that the largest LTL trucking company in the country thinks there is some benefit as they equipped 7,000 tractors with them. They are a bottom line company and wouldn't have spent that much money if they didn't think they did any good.
Again, I make NO claim they do any good and are probably more of a feel good thing than anything.

(noe mind you I sait DUMBER had nithing to do with being younger) :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

I have a new rear tire on it's way because the tire on the bike is lookin a bit smooth, no way I'm riding back here on that tire, I left my tire changer up there so when I go back up this weekend I will change it..Anyone else go on any long rides? If it wasn't so bloody :heat: hot I'd rather ride in the daylight hours.. :good: .
