have one of those cheap plastic cruise control/throttle lock jobs that goes between the grip and switch housing and has a thumb lever arrangement for on/off,
seems they cost ~ 40 bucks  these days

didn't make a diff on or off ..hmmmmm

always good to rule out easy stuff first so took the 2 screws out for the switch housing to have a look see there for anything obvious and it did make a bit of diff after i sprayed it a bit with wd-40, thought at first i was on to something

i woulda thought the housing would come apart then, nope, i guess maybe you have to loosen the throttle cables then to separate the switch housing

once there, i was gonna clean out the switch housing with electrical cleaner then work the switches as i've read that it's a way to freshen 'em up and working properly, they can act up with age and use

i was then gonna work my way down the cables and carbs to sort out the sticky throttle hoping that it didn't turn out to be the slides or something involving way more work

all of a sudden and outa the blue, when tweaking something somewhat related, figured out the prob and turned out to be a very simple

so gonna post what the prob was, might save someone else a ton of grief

anyone wanna guess first?

Relative bearings were stuck?

No....no.....let me think.......muffler clamps were stretched too far??? :smilie_happy:

WAIT....I KNOW..........too much elbow grease on the chain???? :smilie_happy:

(Sorry.....nothing sacred around here!) :smilie_happy:

if there is an adjustment for the throttle lock, and i've seen a small allen bolt adjustment setup for that, i haven't found it yet but that also didn't seem to be the prob

i have slip on foam comfy grips that that go over what i assume are the original grips, i hadn't quite pushed/twisted them all the way to where i wanted so was fiddling with that and mostly by chance suddenly became aware that the stickiness was completely gone :clapping:

so yes and i had no idea that you can simply have the stock grip pushed in too tight against the switch housing and it is very easy to do,

would'nt have thought it would be setup that way, guess it depends somewhat on the grips being used, some probably wouldn't be a problem cos they would only go so far but others like mine are real easy

anyway, always nice to completely fix a nagging issue that until it is done, for all you know could end up being very time consuming along with $$$ to fix

good to have a throttle that is completely normal, means no major issue was involved and now all ok :yahoo:
