I just had a set of Michelin Commanders installed front and rear on my 83 and they rock! Perform very well in the wet and dry. Quiet, long lasting and good looking ! I found an article from back in 1998 when there were a lot more of these around and they loved them!

You can still get them on eBay from a company called "motorace.com"....I just bought a second set as they won't be around forever. About $140.00 for the pair...shipped!
front 120/90-18
rear MT90B-16 (fit's a lot of Harley's too!)

Thats a great price but how old are they,(date code)and how long untell you install the second set? They say reguardless of wear you should replace tires every 5 years.

I was offereds a great deal on a set of E2s (491 dunlops) but after looking closer they where 6 years old on the shelf.

Also, some of the tire manufactures have made great improvements over tires since 1988.Dunlop E3s for example are a awsome tire. They cost about twice as much as what you have though. But I love them.

I never looked at the mfg date on them but they were well wrapped in factory plastic, really air tight. They have no cracks or problems and they have held 40psi without a problem. I also noticed that many manufacturers stopped making these bias ply tires and these sizes seem to be fewer and harder to find. I will be doing a Arizona to NY run and back in May so I figured, I'll be putting the others on before ya know it. And yes, it's about half price!

years ago , ( 1972 - 1974 ) I had a new GT750 Suzuki ...... that thing would lay a Black Mark on a dry road for a solid 100 feet..... I would melt a tire off it about every 30-45 days.... Young and Dumb you know. but ..... I found a tire in those days , a ( Dunlop K81 Roadmaster ) the GT750 would lay down 10-20 feet with the Dunlop on it....... and stick in a curve like it was nailed to the ground. :smilie_happy: been many years since I saw one...... not sure if they still make it or not.

I have ridden from Florida to California three times ( '92.'95,'98 ) and Dunlop Qualifiers were great. They always gave great traction from 100 degree heat to monsoon rain. They never let me down and gave excellent wear!!

i had dunlop k81r tires on my norton back then, got a ticket for having them tires on the street. dunlop hasn't made k81 or k81r tires since the mid to late '70's

Ahh yeh tyre wear. A RS125 GP bike gets about 1 tank of AvGas on a set of slicks and every bike I owned since gets lots lots more so I don't care now
