Overcooling

Anyone know the symptoms of a failed carby coolant thermal valve on '88 GL1500?

I'm still new to the 1500 myself, I don't even know that part. But since I'll be pulling the carbs soon I might be interested in this topic too.

Going by the Service manual diagrams, it appears to regulate the coolant flow thru the carb bases. Depending on failure mode(stuck open-stuck closed), it would cause either long warm-up times, where the engine could bog/stall under acceleration, or it could cause hard starts hot. What issues are you presently having?

Overcooling and really long warmup.
New thermostat last winter made no difference.
Just looking for ideas.
