After over a year of restoration it's about finished. Got it inspected. Good till August of 2020. Lots of new parts. Single carb. I've put 200+ miles on the bike. Runs great. I'll list it next week with asking price. Still have to clear coat some parts.

Runs great Joe.
Spoke too soon Joe. Seems to fight me more and more when the weather changes (rain, damp, cold, snow). At one point in the beginning it was running great. Now not so much. I have to readjust the carb way too often. I can't in good conscience sell the bike like this so it's off the market till I decide what I'm going to do. I'm leaning on going back to a stock carb setup so the bike's reliable. If I was to keep it then I'd keep screwing with adjusting or changing jets or maybe upgrading the intake manifold. But I want it running well enough to sell so I can rescue another Goldwing. That's what I do. It's my "old man" hobby.

I'm sure most can relate to getting so frustrated that I almost reached for the BFH to make a final adjustment.

So to answer your question again Joe, Not running so good. It's starting to piss me off.

Hmmmmm ..... Bill ..be more specific with the single set up ...like some pics ...of carb and manifold set up ...I’ve seen a lot of set ups ....the one thing you have to consider always is throttle control with a strait carb ...stock carbs are cv and the good thing about that is when all things are good it’s imposable to give it to much gas ..as the wrist on the throttle doesn’t control the carb ...in the process of stock also is they late in reaction tending to be lean ...now the stock timing set up as with advance curve is set up to handle this condition.....and when a strait carb is used the advance can get overwhelmed as it provides the gas like now ...on your 1200 the advance is mostly all electronic black box ...it dose have vacuum going to it ...and I know 4th and 5th gear I think are advance different ...this makes the ignition mostly out of your control ...also throttle control becomes training your hand ..it’s also a dial in tool ....to get blunt now when a non cv carb is used on a oldwing it’s my belief that the timing advance curve need to be increase to handle the instant gas delivery to the motor ...to be honest in this statement me personally have never dealt with the 1200 timing system even though I use a 1200 motor it is set up like a 1000 motor with different cams and my ignition is a c5 ignition and highly advanced over stock set up ...with my set up and parts mixing on motor my bike won’t hardly run on the stock ignition advance set up ....Brian has has quite a bit experience running SCC set up for a long time on your situation running the vw carb on stock 1200s ..hopefully he will chime in on this thread ....he been running his for yrs now ....so lot to consider here Bill ...especially if your not going to keep it ...stock carbs may be the best thing ...if your not getting good mpg then this is clear indication that the carb is not dial in good and throttle hand maybe dumping to much gas in ..as said I hope Brian chimes in and you posts some pics so we can see set up Bill

Joe thanks for the input. I appreciate the help. But with this one I'm going back to stock carbs so I can sell it. I'll keep the single carb and intake I made. Might come in handy down the road. Who knows? Probably put it on a shelf till the mood hits me to try it again because I forgot how frustrated it had me. :head bang: Might buy a VW that needs a carb just to use it. :nea: Or maybe Craigslist as a small boat anchor.
