just ordered rebuild kit off amazon ...for hooch had it out and cleaned it up a week ago but noticed brushes were small and on one side the spring that pushes it brush down was bottomed out ....it has been about 2yrs since the last rebuild .....seems the brushes decay fast ..but also the starter is old and somewhat rough ....very glad the kit are available ...no complaining here what so ever .....its the waiting game now suppose to 19th ..... :popcorn:

yep im going to try and do the best i can there again ...seems the brush material goes fast ...a lot of china brushes do tools come with extra set sometimes ...i think these brushes are made of same stuff ...im not complaining glad anybody making them ...
 
The more you polish the commutator with fine paper as Jeff said the longer the brushes will last. That said low voltage will cook through brushes really fast. I reconmend that you/we get the best battery possible to eliminate low voltage that creates more problems. Excessive cranking of the starter is another way to crank through brushes :yes:

nice looking parts but none fit a oldwing starter i have at all sheesh now i feel like terry dose ...bike fest in daytina and im no start still ..have to see if i can rig it somehow ...... :rant: :builder:
 
did a joedrum rig ...works once so far hope it last a bit ...sheesh ....who knows knowing me theres might be three different starters ive got together on hooch ...cant remember **** hurts there big time...i know the grear head is the important part about fitting a 1200 ...im not going to bitch till if figure this out ...could be all me and my parts mixing

If memory serves that's an 1100 starter with the 1200 drive head.
