I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a way to test the cooling fan system on my 1986 gl1200 aspy. so I know it is working.
I know on the old chevys (80s) or so you could just unplug the green (I think) wire for the temp. sensor and ground it to trigger the relay to turn the fan on.
Thanks in advance
Jerry

Sorry I think I put this in the wrong forum.

YES!!! According to the book grounding thegreen leas hhouls cause the fan to run, however that is only IF the temp swith is activated.(HOT). If you apply ground to the Blue wire the fan should run. If the temp of the engine is up high enough to activate the thermo sw it applys ground and the fan runs. There are several ways to thet the fan thermo sw. The best way is to remove it and place it in HOT water to see if it activates at approx the right temp. use the same procedure as the thermostat on page118 in Clymer M340 honda (1000/1100 75/83)..Check it cold, should be open. Check hot, should be near short. I think Littlebever had a very good write-up on repair of this item on the forum. For a quick test of the fan you can jyst shour rhe blue wire on the therno sw to ground with the key turned on. Fan should run. Good luck
