Ok, so this might be obvious but . I have two latches on my trunk, one lock opens with the key and the other will not anymore. Just happened today. Any suggestions? It looks like the key won't go all the way in anymore.

Bigger hammer? :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

My shelter lid lock will not allow the key in anymore. I use a very small screwdriver to open it by turning the lock. The springs and tumbler broke, but it still latches.

I've had that issue with both of the locks on my trunk. The problem on mine was the plastic cover that is supposed to keep stuff(dirt, water, etc) out of the locks had deteriorated to the point of crumbling. Once the pieces finally broke loose, they fell so that the key would not go all the way into the lock. My "fix" was to dig the small pieces of crumbly plastic out of the lock cylinder with a small pick. They both work fine now. I had the same dang problem with my Mercedes, and the same solution.

Don't know if yours has the same issue, but it's worth looking to see if the plastic cover thingy(hi-tech term) on yours is messed up.
;)

I've gotten many sticking locks to loosen up by flushing with WD40 and rakeing the tumblers with a pick. Once things get to where they'll move again, I flush it with brake clean, then give it a shot of graphite, and chase that with a couple drops of MMO. Then shove the key in and out and turning the key about 642 times. Yup, got new life outta many sticking locks thisaway.

Yup. Same thing happened to me. I did the same things to fix it.

I have a trunk that im no longer using.bouth latchs work as do the locks, the trunk it salf is in rought shap.can make a spare key for it.your welcome to it.you will steel need your old key to remove it from your trunk rack.

The key not going in all the way is a sure sign of a dry or damaged lock, If it is just dry spraying WD40 in the key hole should fix it, however there is a better product called Lock Shot make by Stac Tech., which is available at most lock shops, but if it has a damaged wafer it will have to be fixed by a locksmith. Oil is too sticky for locks and over time will gum them up and if you live in a high humidity climate graphite will absorb moisture and when it dries out will solidify, freezing the lock. As a public service we lube auto and motorcycle locks free of charge for anyone who drops by the shop, check around, a shop in your area may do the same thing.

ok, so I'm fixing my own issue. I used a paper clip to drag out a foreign object and now the key goes all the way in. Locks work.

:clapping: Kewl!
I bet that foreign object was plastic! Glad ya got it working again!! :good:
