The screw holding the striker / lock tang for the rh pannier came loose as the threads had stripped in the barrel. Didn't notice door open and clipped it going through a gap, ripped nylon stay off door so it was hanging down instead of level.
Cable ties to the rescue :good:
Lock with old screw and new stainless replacement
You can see in the barrel of the lock where the threads are stripped. I tapped further down into the barrel and then cut a new screw which picks up on the new deeper threads. I moved the damaged/ repaired lock to the top box as I figured it would do less damage if it fails again. I also had to cut off ( rusted on) the rear hinge screw and pry up the alloy molding/seal channel and reinstall the strap that holds the lid up. I thought I would take the pannier off to make the job easier and discovered the spring was broken and would not release the pannier from the mount. Any ideas on a replacement material as it just looks like stainless wire to me. I would rather do that myself than order the spring kit from Craig Vetter but if all else fails I may still do that.
Modified lock installed in the top box

I am now thinking that I should be concealing a few on the Rats Nest for emergencies..

Tony - One option is to just take the sping clip off and then drill a hole and bolt the saddlebag onto the bracket. I have seen it done before but cannot find the pictures.

I will dig around and see if I can find them. :builder:

Thanks Brian. I want to have my luggage working as designed even though most times I only carried one into the hotels we stayed in on our ride. It appears that it is just stainless wire for the springs but I didn't drill the spring bracket off as it has broken in such a way that the pannier is locked on atm.

Mine broke once also. It is only SS spring wire. I am not sure if one of these would have enough clearance or not...

Obviously you would not be able to lock them any more, but it is cheaper than the $30 that it costs to buy the OEM pieces, and if it was done correctly, only you would know that.

Skiri great suggestion got me thinking. Model plane undercarriage could be a source of the wire.
:thanks:
