I'll leave the tech to the others. What kind did you get? I loved the KURYAKYN I put on my 1500. I knew the moment my alternator failed.

Bought an autometer one to fill the hole in the right side on the interstate but then also have a Blue LED digital that’s going to get wired in somewhere

I'd place it "downstream" of the voltage regulator/rectifier. That way it tests both the strator and the regulator.

You could break out a multimeter and test the voltage difference, but I am going to assume that if the system is working as intended, the ACC fuse circuit is going to be 99%+ of the regulator voltage.

Agree with saganaga on schematic placement. But really, complete accuracy is not that critical. Once you are familiar with the nominal operating characteristics of your machine, you will very quickly see anomalous readings regardless of calibration status of the meter...or where it's placed in the circuit.

When I had my 1200, I found a nice Honda Marine guage and installed it along with a power port.

(I miss that motorcycle.)

I agree 100%...I got a voltmeter from Harbor Freight & connected the meter and it's light to the accessory terminal. I'm not concerned with actual voltage...I just want to know at a a glance if it's NOT charging
