    Looking for a new windshield

+1 I would give polishing a try first. My windshield had swirls, light scratches and one nasty smear right in the center when I got it and I had great results with Meguiars ScratchX. That was three years ago and it still looks like new.

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Installed a new rear tire and brake pads. No idea why but I only got 5500 miles from my Spitfire S11's...... I fully extended the caliper Pistons to clean them and then collapsed them completly to make room for the new pads. That must have moved some dirt around that had been laying peacefully...

    Speedometer repair

Treekiller, thanks for the link but I think I'll just live with my smudge a while longer. Looks like a lot of places where a guy could go wrong. :swoon:

    Speedometer repair

Can you tell us how you got it apart? Mine has smears inside the lens that is either factory or someone has opened it in the past. Thanks.

A topic about main and rod bearings

Dan, I know what you're driving at but in this case the babbit is just a coating on the bearings. The only fix is to replace the bearings. I was talking about cast iron housings that had poured babbit bearings. They could be melted out, re-poured and machined back to origional specs.

A topic about main and rod bearings

We haven't seen the crankshaft close enough. There's a possibility that the journals aren't hurt, you would have to polish and then check the sizes and finish to determine serviceability. Yeah, the bearings are shot. As a machinist I have poured and machined babbit bearings. The babbit is a soft...

    Running W/O a thermostat revisited....

I run my thermostat and have no overheating problems. I have no opinion in the debate of in or out. The one I don't understand is the idea of removing a properly operating thermostat (open and restricting) with a restricter plate.

Second CGW Midwest MEET August 3rd and 4th in French Lick Indiana!

Rat, I hate to hear you won't make it this year. At least some of us got to meet you last year. Enjoy your rides where ever they take you. :clapping: Wes, I haven't made up my mind yet, IHOP and Indianapolis, IHOP and Cincinnati or just straight from my house down 32 to Cincy. Right now I'm...

    1980 GL1100 work in progress

Very nice work. :clapping: I was able to fix a leaking fork seal by trimming a sheet of plastic to the shape of the sealmate tool. https://www.sealmate.net/ I was surprised to see how much gunk was trapped between the dust seal and the nylon washer above the fork seal. I cleaned all that out...

Rt trun signal flashing too fast

And I am sticking with that comment! :smilie_happy: At least now I know that a short can cause the fast flashing, thanks. :music:

Rt trun signal flashing too fast

Not a short... This is normally the result of a bulb burned out (no curent flow), a short would be a high curent flow. A high resistance connection would come closer to mimicking a dead bulb but should also result in a dimmer light in that bulb. I'm with Dan, I would like to see what changes...

    mirror thread help

+1 :good: You only have two choices, the adapters backlander posted or metric mirrors. Even if you could build up the threads with Teflon tape the number of threads per inch would be different which means they would want to cross/thread at some point..

    Saddlemen seat experience?

Yes I did. in fact I covered it without removing the old cover in case it all went south on me it would still have a usable cover. I think it would be much easier to remove the old cover and rip out the stitches and you would have the perfect pattern pieces. I used my wife's standard sewing...

    Saddlemen seat experience?

Guys, sorry I took so long to complete the posting. I have a long list of reasons, most of which were fun. I hated giving up my original (comfy) seat. When I bought the bike most of the seams were letting go and there was no stitching at all left in the diamond pattern of the seat. Over a period...
