The left turn signal is working properly. When I turn the right turn signal on it blinks way too fast. So I thought ok change a bulb. I did with no different results. Replaced the front bulb-same. replaced the rear turn signal bulb-same.

Can the flasher go out on only one side?
any other suggestions on how to get it to signal properly?

old style flashers rely on resistance to flash. So it seems one side has more resistance than the other side. You could install a newer electronic flasher.

Out of curiosity, try swapping signal bulbs left to right and see if the problem changes sides.

If not then maybe there is a higher resistance in thewiring on the right side that wants to flash too fast? Maybe some loose or corroded connections?

The way some electrical things work facinate me so I like to figure out exactly why it's doing what it's doing.

when one side blinks faster than the other it means either a bulb is burned out (most automobiles) or there is a short on that side (Motorcycles)

Or maybe that side is low on blinker fluid....

sorry...it had to be said.....

Has to be too much resistance somewhere in that circuit, whether the bulb, bulb socket, connectors, or [possibly the turn sig switch itself.

I see ya have some around just in case :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Not a short... This is normally the result of a bulb burned out (no curent flow), a short would be a high curent flow.
A high resistance connection would come closer to mimicking a dead bulb but should also result in a dimmer light in that bulb.
I'm with Dan, I would like to see what changes swapping all bulbs right to left.
your problem has me baffled and thats my final answer. :smilie_happy:
An incorrect bulb that draws less current but has the same brightness?.......nah

I will change the bulbs left to right tomorrow. The bulbs have been in there for a while. I did buy a new bulb 1157 and did the same thing. exchanged back to front and same thing. I will also spray some electric cleaner in the turn switch on the handlebar also tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can do a wrench but wiring is an entirely different monster to me.

Well I took the switch apart and used an electric cleaner. Changed all the bulbs. Now I have turn signals. BUT the left side was the one I had fast flashing now I have no left running front light.
I even changed the connection on the front signals. So I now have no power to the right running light. It does flash on the turn signal.

any more suggestions?

hmmmm ive been in electrical nightmare for awhile ...keep all hammers ansharp objects out of reach ...im sure its something you have disturb into bad connection or something like that

Wilcoy, use a jumper wire with alligator clips and ground each individual light and see if it starts working right. Sounds to me like you have been attacked by the "ground" gremlin because the problem is moving around to much. Just my thoughts. Did you switch over to the electronic flasher when you wired in and started pulling a trailer ?

If memory serves the front running lights connect to the same double connector inside the headlight bucket or inside the fairing. 1157 bulbs up front 1156 signal bulbs in back.

1157 in the front.

The wires in the fairing is where I switched the rt front and lt front. The left side worked on both so I know it is not a socket. I just do not know where the live wire is at (for the running light) from that connection in the fairing to the rest of the bike.

I changed out my original flasher from mother honda with an automobile flasher several years ago. Now that the bulbs are flashing I know it is not the flasher. I did not add any thing else when I put the trailer lights on. I just linked into the wires under the seat.

At leat I can still ride with turn signals now.

Well when it happened to me it was a short - not saying it is here but certainly can be ! I think your right - baflfed !

And I am sticking with that comment! :smilie_happy:
At least now I know that a short can cause the fast flashing, thanks. :music:

 it's flashing faster on the right side? try rerouteing a longer wire.from the blinker too the light .maybe that will couse it to slow down some since the juice has to go farther to get there.... :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:
