Parts For Sale '75 muffler -FREE

In pretty bad shape on the right inlet. I think it could be patched up by cutting a section out of another muffler, pounding it to fit and welding it on. Available starting 19 May pick-up from my home or I can deliver within 25 miles or so (of Clinton, TN). PM if interested.

    The dreaded starter clutch noise

I had a '78 with an intermittent starter clutch. Overfill by one quart plus a quart of MMO then parked pointed up hill on a steep drive for eight or so hours. Changed the oil and had no problems after that. I think setting inoperable in a barn then a shop, then a fence row probably caused it.

    Struck gold

The vacuum dome screws should be JIS, so they have been replaced and the domes probably removed. I would find a set of chrome "garnishes" to tie front and rear carbs together before separating them from the plenum. Usually no real need to separate the carbs from each other (IE keep 1&3, 2&4...

    what did you do today

Had a bone scan done. That wasted the morning. Plan to ride the Spyder in to Twisters later to see what everyone is riding and enjoy some ice cream.

Bike acts like it has a rev limiter in around 5000 rpm

Choke partially on, exhaust collapse (they are double-wall, I recall hearing of one with just the inner wall collapsed).

    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Work on this project will be put on hold for a while. I need a couple surgeries, and recovery/rehab will take a while.

    1985 GL1200 Limited ECU Replacement/Upgrade - Part 3 - Road Trials

Well, the coolant thermostat should close below ~185 F and open at about 190 F. Fan or no fan. Of course, with no fan and to motion, even with the thermostat open the temperature will continue to increase.

    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Unorthodox, that's me. Trying to figure out a very shallow ramp to take it out the garage to the drive out back. There is about a 1.5" drop and a 3" gap full of large gravel at the interface. No issue for a bike, car, etc . but a problem for the small wheels on the dolly. And my shoulder is...

    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Head mounted and torqued, belts mounted with new idlers, valves adjusted, valve covers installed. Rolled it over upside-down on a furniture dolly for better cleaning and to permit painting tbe bottom. It is strapped to the dolly with ratchet straps that will come off for painting.

    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Well, I have the new head gasket in hand. And ONE of the idler bearings. I had ordered two at the same time from Amazon, but one came USPS today and the other is setting ~10 miles away at the UPS hub. Bother. Anyway, re-tapped the block, ran the bolts over the wire wheel in the drill press. The...

    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Spent over five hours today getting the head gasket cement off of the head and block. They even used whatever they used on the head gasket on the water elbow gasket. Stuff reminded me of a sealer that we were forbidden to use on steam flanges in the Navy called Copaltite. Along with being and...

    75 GL1000 "Pete"

Pulled the left head today. There was just a bit of "mud" in the #4 cylinder, which wiped right out leaving nice looking walls. Turned the head valve side up and filled the areas with isopropyl alcohol - surprisingly, there was no leakage! So, cleaning and reassembly (once gaskets come in next...

Finally feeling good enough to tackle this thing again. Will probably pay for it tomorrow, but the shoulder just isn't improving, so... Finalized the fuel tank vinegar cleaning, neutralized with baking soda, washed and rinsed, dried thoroughly and added over a half can of fogging oil. Then...

    Return to Vintage wiring woes

    82 interstate refurb

I repainted a '76 RD400, adding new decals. I clearcoated the paint first, then applied decals, then clearcoated again. Held up great until a Niisan pulled in front of me last Summer. I used SprayMax 2k rattle-can clear. purchased on Amazon. Check with some of the decal vendors on ebay. If they...

    Return to Vintage wiring woes

Clean all wires back a few inches with alcohol to check their color. The horn should be light green as I remember. Also, make sure you use the Honda diagram - not one from Clymer, Chilton, or Haynes.

    Return to Vintage wiring woes

BTW, there is one phase of the alternator (yellow) leads that goes to the left handlebar connector, then is just jumpered back (on NA models). This phase is used in Europe to power the headlight, I think. Adds ~2 meters and several connectors to that for NA models.
