    Goldwings

1500 is a super-slab mile eater. 1800 is a beast in the twisties.

Help with 1985 GL1200 Limited Edition

A little Techron is good maintenance, but not as strong as Seafoam.

Help with 1985 GL1200 Limited Edition

Not really the best 1st GoldWing, but a great bike! Yes the knob is for headlight aiming. Search teh web for the instructions - they are out there. DO NOT use Seafoam or any other cleaner at higher than the chemical manufactures' specified concentration! Change your belts!

    My new old 'Wing

There is a tiny hole at the bottom of a larger hole slightly above the inlet port. It is TINY! Clean it out with a .009 or .001 guitar string. Then, squirt brake cleaner through it.

Anyone out there? Stranded with what is probably obvious to old timers.

There once were package trays that mounted in place of the passenger grab bar. Some of them had adjustable/removable passenger backrests. The package trays were very useful for attaching things with bungees.

Anyone out there? Stranded with what is probably obvious to old timers.

It would probably fit, but you would hate it as it would shove your "package" into a small area. K&Q seats were real popular on GL1000s, and now they are real popular to remove. BTW. pidjones is kind of laid up right now with bumps, bruises, and a separated collarbone. A week ago, a car pulled...

    Gl1100

Love your details! One suggestion: replace the GL1100 valve covers wit GL1000 covers - IMHO they look much better.

    Help

    A) give your post a better title than just "Help". B) obviously you either know enough to do a couple complex jobs, or didn't know what you were doing and have made things worse. C) location in the title might find local help. D) don't take it to a shop unless you are willing to pay 5x the...

    Transmission clunky shifting...

Rotella oil is good (JASO MA2 rated), but should be 15W40. Many feel better shifting by SLIGHTLY pre-loading the shifter before clutch/full shift.

    Diagnose this belt tensioner

Shouldn't really have play, but should spin smooth and quiet.

    Idle speed

Idle adjust screw is on the right side behind the carbs. Brass slotted screw - it adjusts the idle stop for all four carbs. It should idle all the way down to 800 when warmed. I'm thinking about putting an extension an mine as it tends to creep up when warmed up. But, even a stubby screwdriver...

Cops in Ft. Worth, Texas have new GL1800s!!

That doesn't look like a new 'Wing.

    Voltage reading

Ignition uses more power at higher RPM. Might be marginal charging system (usually poor connections).

    78 GL1000 cold miss

Make sure you are getting power to both coils. Might have a bad ballast resistor or connector, points, wiring, etc.

First post, introduction: 1978 Goldwing, "Ursula"

Change your belts! And, obtain (they are available online in pdf form) a Honda service manual (not Chiltons or Haynes).

    Dieletric grease

It might help. I won't solve the problem of over-loaded connector located in a high corrosion environment.

Caps for idle 1978 GL1000 adjustment screws

Ignore as long as their o-rings are good.

    Main fuse blown

Most folks replace the dogbone with a 30 amp automotive fuse holder and fuse. A bit more reliable, and certainly more available on the road.
