    MY GL1100 Project

Frammis levels are a black art - like carb synching. The 1980 Frammis is fairly stable if you sneak up on it in the dark.

    MY GL1100 Project

And the Frammis level in the double throw-back switch? By now you must know that the noise in the starter is the sprague clutch. Usually the best cure is engine out and disassemble lubricate or replace rollers and pistons and springs. The bolt holding it on is torqued down to 65 Ft Lbs so it's...

    GL1000 Ignition on a GL1100

Only recommendation I would make is to source a GL1000 head, then you won't have to grind away the bottom part of the lip on the distributor housing. It's not hard, but the 1000 heads have the detente already cut out and their otherwise identical. Hook up is easy if you run your wires forward to...

    Carb Adjustments

We're talking about a GL1000 or GL1100 right? Or am I smoking too much Tequila? There is an air mixtures valve with a little diaphragm in it in the front of the plenum slightly to the right of the air cleaner. If this thingie is gummed up it can cause all kinds of havoc with idle and stumbling...

Love that video. I have a 308 Polyester, Most of my bikes will outdrag it anyday.

    Carb Adjustments

Check your air mixture valve before you do anything. It is the most likely place to gather gum and bugger up the system. Carb icing won't happen at low temperatures, it's a function of speed (venturi effect), pressure (low) and moisture (high) try taking off in an airplane at 88 degrees with 88...

    MY GL1100 Project

Many people ignore it, along with diluted air in the tires, with potentially disastrous consequences. But if you're low on Frammis when the switch sticks it could cause a brown-out in a 12 mile radius.

    Gauge test

Thanks for the input. Any idea how to test the physical gauge to see if it's busted? Cheers, P

    MY GL1100 Project

Welcome from France. Don't forget to check the double throwback switch and top up the Frammis.

    GL1000 Ignition on a GL1100

Got the cams and points in. Had to grind off a bit from behind the point cover to fit the 1100 head. Split the timing and it works very well indeed. Much smoother power and more of it. I removed the distributor from the back and plugged the hole with a piece of gas hose with a compression bolt...

    Gauge test

1981 GL1100 Outside of the 7 volt rectifier (Mine's OK) Has anyone tested the temperature gauge? If so how? My sensors are good, wiring fine, gauge doesn't move. Fan goes on and off when it shoujld bike doesn't overheat but I don't know how hot it is. Cheers, Zaphod

    Adjusting valves cold

Silly man: that's because they're high maintenance and self-adjusting: they adjust their valves until you get it right. Check out my character's page on Facebook : Matthias Jordan. All will be clear.

    Sulphur Yellow body set needed.

Just called it sulphur yellow. I don't know what variant of GL this one is: 8477 miles from new, when I got it it was covered in Bates and Vetter stuff, surface rusted and corroded all to hell. Can't save the muffler but, once I have it apart, everything else will be sorted. I just don't want to...

    1976 GL1000 grab bars needed

You can adapt a CB750 bar on using a shop press to flatten out the curve up in back. It fits rear close to teh seat, but you can get the turn signals on it.
